Describe the issue

Issue with ARC Connecting to Roon Server After Backup Restore (ref#IVJH9K) my issue is exactly the same as this one so basically I needed to restore from my previous backup as I deleted music by mistake anyway on the Roon app itself, I had to disconnect from the server and reconnect, which is no problem, but for ARC The problem lies on losing all my downloaded music this has took time to sort out. I know I can get this working by forgetting the network deleting it and starting a fresh but I don’t want to lose all my downloads. Is this possible or is this the only way at the moment until this can be addressed in the future ?

Describe your network setup

The same as all the other times I filled this in

Hi @GillysHere,

Unfortunately, you’re encountering an inconvenient reality within Roon and ARC. Restoring a Backup generates a new server ID to prevent two copies of the same server from existing in the same Roon ecosystem during server migration. The ARC database installed on the phone is synced to the previous, non-existent server ID and must be disconnected to sync with the new server/database version. It’s no different than if you’d moved RoonServer from one machine to another.

Fortunately, the Product team has a ticket in with development to improve this condition. We recognize that it’s extraordinarily inconvenient for some users to redownload everything after restoring a Backup or switching to a new RoonServer machine. So far, there are no changes to this anticipated in any upcoming builds. However, I will keep this thread open so we can ping here if a fix or change is impending.

Same here now, after ROCK destroyed himself the database I restored it yesterday and now ARC can’t connect anymore, no matter if at home on WIFI or on 5G (outside)
Deinstalled ARC 2x, didn’t help either.
ARC says the “server is online and ready”, but when trying to connect on the phone it fails to connect (on WIFI or 5G) and ends with an error “can’t connect to your roon server” or “roon server isn’t configured for access outside your network”, although ARC settings on my Roon tablet work fine. I also updated the IP on NAT forwarding on router. Turned UPnP on and off, rebooted the router (TPLink AXE5400) but all didn’t help.
Is this the same issue?

suddenly working now!
I restored another backup (just to try) and then ARC was showing 2 Roon servers, one last seen 10min ago (I guess the old backup) and a new one, again online, but couldn’t connect.

Instead of deinstalling ARC again (already did 2x) I went to the App options and deleted the cache and stored data (Android). Then went back to ARC and tryied to connect and suddenly it connected!? No idea why this should be different than reinstalling?

It seems to be very bugy with this restore backup function?!

Hi @connor

Thank you for the detailed explanation. That makes perfect sense, and I agree it would be great to have an option to retain downloads after a restore in the future. For now, I’ve disconnected and reconnected, and everything is working well again. The good news is I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the download speed it used to be painfully slow, but now it’s nearly instant, which is saving me a lot of time. Thanks again for your help!

Hi @michel_buchs

Thank you for your suggestions and for sharing your experience. I’m on iOS, so unfortunately, I don’t have this option available to try.
