ARCAM rPLAY device not starting music playback in Roon (ref#13I3AW)

I got home and did a couple of Google searches, and while I have never used the RPlay this Google search seems applicable to may Arcams from that time

To perform a “net reset” on an Arcam device, you will typically need to navigate to the system settings menu, either through the front panel or a web interface, and select the “Net Reset” or “Factory Reset” option. If the device is unresponsive, a more advanced recovery method involving a USB drive and a specific button combination may be required. A factory reset will erase all user settings and calibration data, so it is important to be aware of this before proceeding

Perform a NET RESET (MENU > SYSTEM SETTINGS > NET RESET) or a SYSTEM RESET.

The Google Search below gives you an expanded set of results

Thanks Michael. Through your web search I found away to factory reset the rPlay:

To reboot the unit, simply press and hold the RESET button for approximately 4 seconds. If you wish to restore the unit to its factory default settings, press and hold the RESET button for approximately 8 seconds. – From: rPlay_FAQ_Issue2.pdf

I will try this and report back.

Good news, let’s hope it works.
The ARCAM amp’s often sound beautiful, and in 3 years of ownership I have rarely had an issue, especially with Roon which is my main use case.

But I have seen lots of people who have had network and streaming issues with them. I am a member of an SA30 owners forum which for a while was very active with issues.

Hello @hallo_leo ,

Glad to hear you were able to locate the reset procedure, pleasel let us know if it helps with the issue!

Hi @benjamin and @Michael_Harris

I have reset the ARCAM rPlay plus I have restarted Roon Server and the Mac client.

Roon sees the rPlay again and I can enable it in the Audio settings and first it didn’t work (same situation: I could select the rPlay, but music never played).

However I have just tried the rPlay endpoint again – and now it seem to work!!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I do not trust it completely, let’s wait and see how well it works…

Because I’m still a bit worried, I created another log archive now while rPlay is working and I uploaded it. (The archive is called Logs_hallo_leo_20251022_working.zip.) Would you mind checking it whether everything now looks good in the logs?

Thank you!

Glad to be able to share a bit of knowledge and help you get up and running

I crowed to soon: the rPlay device is gone from the list now. (First, after approx. 1 1/2 h of playing playback stopped, then the rPlay device is disappeared from the list.)

Can you see something in the logs?

Hi @hallo_leo,

We’d be happy to take a closer look! We’re unable to manually receive Roon Server logs from your machine, unfortunately, could you please send over another fresh set of Roon Server logs, as well as a general timeframe when the rPlay disappeared?

Thank you!

Hi @benjamin

I just uploaded a fresh set of server logs. (named Logs_hallo_leo_20251023.zip)

The disappearing happened around 8pm, 22 Oct 2025 (UTC+11). It was working beforehand from approx. 6pm–7:30pm.

Please take a closer look. Thank you!

Hi @hallo_leo,

The latest logs captured the event - we see the rPlay pairing with Roon just fine, but then the streaming fails to initiate at the endpoint. Roon receives a generic network error from the Airplay2 stack in the rPlay.

If a factory reset temporarily resolved the issue, it’s likely that a stale AirPlay session or cached state builds up over time, causing the connection to drop after the device has been online for a while.

If Airplay2 traffic otherwise passes to/from the NAS without issue, it’s unlikely the firewall is restricting traffic here. As others mentioned above, an unfortunate but possible culprit is firmware instability in the rPlay itself, as this device has since been discontinued.

Powering on/off the rPlay more frequently in between listening sessions may prevent stale sessions. You can also try disabling/enabling the Zone in Roon when the connection is functioning.

Does the network reset on the rPlay have any effect on its visibility elsewhere on the network? Is the device still visible in Airplay on your Mac outside of Roon?

We’ll watch for your response. Thank you!

Super interesting! Thanks for taking the time to go through the logs. I guess the rPlay itself is the issue.

The device is always visible as normal Airplay device from macOS and iOS. This connection is stable: I can stream over it for hours (with very small, but of course annoyiyng stutters once in while: maybe 1 stutter in approx. 2-3 hours of listening). Even when I disconnect form the rPlay as Airplay device it still will be theer teh next day to connect to.

Only in Roon it is flaky…

Hi @hallo_leo,

Thanks for the update! Were you able to explore the other troubleshooting steps Connor mentioned above?

Are you able to review and perform a fresh install of the current firmware, or check if there are any updates missed?

Does this change the behavior at all?

Thank you!
