Audio Analysis - Waveform wrong and background analysis stucked

Hi there!

Having lots of issues with background analysis in getting stuck. It is almost the same pattern every time, stuck on last song or stuck when 4 songs remaining.

Analysis Settings are = Throttled

Some times I can fix it by disabling the background analysis and enable it again, but it does not last for long. Sometimes when I choose to re-analyze an album with lets say 12 songs, then the backgound analysis progress shows x out of 24 or maybe 41 songs???

The logs does not show anything critical, the background analysis just stops working :frowning:

I have a 24 Bit 96 Kbit version of Red Hot Chili Peppers Greatest Hits album, where the waveform is a total mess, re-analyzing has no effect.

Anyone know how to fix, I tried scanning the files for errors, but they look fine and plays well.

Experienced this many many times as have others. It just gets itself in a muddle and then the counter itself starts to back up with ones it’s finishing. A reboot or restart of server app tends to clear it rather than turning analysis off and on. If it does get stuck, I now reboot then redo analysis on all tracks I just added again. I no longer leave analysis on either and just toggle it on when I need it. When I copy music I wait for it to be there fully then turn on analysis let it do its thing then turn it off until next time. Can’t work out why it gets stuck sometimes but this way it doesn’t seem to happen. It might be worthwhile overnight redo the whole library.

Hey @anon499754,

Thanks for taking the time to write in, and welcome to the community! We’re excited to have you here.

Do you see this issue occur no matter the remote device you’re using?

For the device you’ve shared a screenshot of, lets see if a Roon database refresh may help:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :raised_hands:

Thank you for the tips ‘n’ tricks, I will try that too and see how it goes

Hi,

I’m running a Lenovo Thinkcentre as a ROCK server, so I did the following:

  1. Created a backup
  2. Stopped Roon Server Software on the ROCK server
  3. Renamed the RoonServer folder in \rock\data to RoonServer_old
  4. Started the Roon Server Software (This creates a fresh DB)

I then imported the 4 albums by Red Hot Chili Peppers, they all seem fine except from the Greatest Hits, same waveform as before.

Here is a screenshot with the waveform from another player, this seem more like it, since all RHCP albums have 0 dynamic range

Do you want a copy of one of the failed files?

Hi @anon499754 ,

Yes, can you please send us one (or more) of the files causing this issue to the below link and let us know once uploaded? Thanks!

I have just uploaded two songs.

Thanks for sending those over @anon499754! Our team has a ticket in for further investigation, and I should have more details to share next week - we appreciate your patience so far!
