Describe the issue

I am getting "Failed to Initialize the Audio Device" when playing files that are another above 16/44.1 on my Windows 11 24h2 machine. This just started happening today. I have had no issues out side a few random occurrences before. I have a large number of 24/192 and below files plus a small number of DSD. RoonCore is on an Ubuntu Linux server. The RoonCore and my Win 11 computer are connected via 10gb ethernet on the same switch, same VLAN. HiRes files play fine when sending them to a WiiM Pro Plus in another part of the house or my iPhone which is obviously on WiFi. All devices have been rebooted multiple times. RoonARC is working fine.

Describe your network setup

Ubiquiti devices. Router is UXG-Pro, all switches connected via 10GB links. ATT synchronous 1GB fiber. Speed tests show we're getting close to max speeds consistently.

Hey @Robert_Donovan,

Thanks for writing in! Could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?

In the meantime, let’s also perform a RAATServer refresh on your issue Windows remote.

You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

Note that the use of VLANs do fall outside the scope of Roon Technical Support - while your issue isn’t likely network-related, we do ask to see if you can reproduce the same issue while using a normal LAN. Thank you! :raised_hands:

I thought I had replied to this, sorry. After some more testing, I think my DAC may be the issue. It seems to bounce when switching to hires files. Not all the time, but definitely some. When it does and I cannot play any of the hires files if I power cycle the DAC it starts working again. I am going to get another DAC to test and I will let you know.

Hi @Robert_Donovan,
We’re glad you were able to marrow down the source of your issue to the DAC. Please let us know if the initialization failures stop with the new DAC when you test it.

Thanks I will let you know.

Hey @Robert_Donovan,

Since a few days have passed, we wanted to check in and see how things have been running?

We’ll be on standby for your status - thank you! :raised_hands:

Im still waiting on the DAC to test but it’s actually been fine.

Hi @Robert_Donovan,
I’m glad everything has been fine so far. We’ll keep an eye out for your update when you receive the new DAC!
