Audio Devices does not list "This Mac"

“This Mac” is not showing up in the list of audio devices. This is on my main computer, a Mac Mini (2012).

I’ve check the fire wall settings and they appear to be okay.

My laptop does appear on the Mac Mini’s Device list and “This Mac” does appear on the laptop.

My Roon data base lives on a QNAP NAS.

Any suggestions on what else to check would be appreciated.

@soundone, what version of MacOS are you using on the mini? Is your Roon Core on the QNAP NAS? Also what version of Roon are you using on the mini and what version is on the QNAP?

Robert,
Thanks for the quick response.
I’m running Mac OS 10.15.7.
The Roon Core is on the QNAP NAS.
Both the Mac and the QNAP are running Roon Version 2.0 (build 1272)
Thanks for your help!

How are you getting audio out from the Mini? I assume you are running Roon Bridge on the Mini. Is the Mini connected via USB to a DAC? If so, if the DAC is not powered up or the cable has been disconnected, Roon will not show the device. Roon needs to see a complete route from Core to endpoint DAC or it will not show the device in the audio endpoint list.

At one point I was getting audio out of the headphone output.

@soundone, how is the QNAP NAS and the mini connected to your network? Ethernet cable or WiFi? What version of MacOS does your laptop run?

My new laptop is 12.6…6.
But I had the same problem on my old laptop running 10.15.7.

Everything is hardwired.

Do you have any firewall software running on the mini? If so, do you have an exception set to allow Roon?

Yes, Roon is in the exceptions list.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are NAS and Mac Mini on the same subnet? Is wifi active on the Mac Mini?

Yes same subnet.

Everything is hardwired.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear with my question about WiFi. I understand your Mac Mini is hardwired. Question was if the WiFi is also active.

I have a MacBook that I use as a controller only, so no endpoint. When docked, it it both hardwired and has WiFi. In settings it is appearing and disappearing and when it appears it shows different a IP address depending on whether it uses the WiFi or wired connection.
Admittedly the MacBook is in a different subnet which may be the actual cause.

For me it is not an issue as it does not seem to have no effect on using it as a controller, but maybe it does have an effe when using it as an endpoint.

No, Wi-Fi is off.

I’m thinking it’s gotta be a. router setting.

I have a Fortinet router.

I don’t know how or where to add the exception for Roon.
