Description of Issue

a few times in past week and , tonight, repeatedly music playing would stop and this message was displayed “An Audio File is loading Slowly. This may indicate a performance or hardware problem”
I have rebooted the Nucleus a number of times as well as the Modem and the router. I also switched to a different Home network but this continues to happen. I am unable to play music for more than 2 or 3 mins without this happening.

The Nucleus seems to behaving “sluggishly”
Very long time to reboot. To the point where the Web UI page told me the unit was not successfully rebooting before doing so a minute or 2 later.

Happens now with each track within about a minute.
So weird. Everything pretty good before this.
Wonder about External HD issues?

This could very well be failing drive or other hardware issue. Here’s how to access the logs. Be worth having a look around…

Thank you
Will get you this on Weds
Likely 1st opportunity I’ll have

Good morning
Logs uploaded
After posting this problem I connected the HD to my desktop and drive was identified and seemed to be working fine. I powered down the Nucleus and reconnected the drive. This time Music found and I left Roon playing all night without issue.

previous to this move The drive was not even being found by the Nucleus.
Im sure the logs will help figure this out but sure seems like a drive problem to me. Often when connected to Nucleus and having these issues the drive cannot even be found. Also when these issues are happening the Nucleus is “hung up” and often won’t respond to shut down or restart commands from the web UI and needs to be unplugged to get it going again.
Thank you for your help with this.

Hey @thomas_clark1,

Thanks for your patience while we work through each thread. Following up here, are you only playing local content?

I’d be curious to see how things function on a fresh database, before loading a backup. Steps to follow below:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon Database
  • Stop RoonServer from running in Nucleus’s WebUI
  • Navigate to your Nucleus’ Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Database
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Core” and connect to the new database

Before restoring from a backup, please try adding+playing a small amount of tracks and let me know if you run into this same issue :+1:

Ben
Thank you
Things have been running smoothly since I posted
Yes I only use local files from attached external HD.
Will creating a " fresh database" necessitate the approx 72 hours it takes to scan my HD when starting data analysis from the start?

Hey @thomas_clark1,

That’s great to hear! In that case, perhaps we should hit pause on testing things for now.

If you restore from a backup, you wont have to go through audio analysis. If you rebuilt your library from scratch, you would go through the same process as when you originally downloaded Roon.

I’ll keep this thread open for now just incase things pop up :+1:

Ben
Thank you
Agree
Will sit tight for now and hope it was an isolated occurrence
