Audio Loss After Inserting Lumin U2 in Digital Chain (ref#F33XNA)

Describe the issue

Audio loss immediately after inserting the Lumin U2.
Digital chain consisting of: DrayTek Vigor167 (bridge modem), Asus rt ax 92u (router), ASUSTOR Flashstor 6 FS6706T (Roon core/Roon storage)+ LHY lps (external linear power supply), Lumin U2, Denafrips Gaia 15th, Sonnet Pasithea I2S/HDMI module, etCatenahernet Viborg lan 8 cable, Oyaide ar-910 USB cable, I2S/HDMI Tubulus concentum cable. The amplifier is Leben cs 600x which drives a pair of Living voice obx rw-4. The power cables are Duelund, the Isol-8 isolink power cables, Isol-8 Powerline Extreme electrical distribution unit.
While I was listening to a song from Roon/Qobuz (I had just inserted the Lumin U2 into the digital chain connected to the network with ftp cable and the Denafrips Gaia with USB cable) after some stuttering of the audio while trying to move on to the next song the audio stopped. I managed to get it to restart a couple of times then it stopped for good. You don't hear anything with Qobuz connect either. During audio silence I noticed that the DSD no longer appears between the Roon settings of the device and the PCM has been degraded to 192 ghz as the maximum setting. If I change devices for example iPad 13 pro the audio works. I tried restarting the entire system several times, uninstalling and reinstalling the Roon and Lumin app several times, unplugging and replugging the USB cable but nothing. What could have happened?

Since the problem started with introducing Lumin U2, first we need to verify it is compatible and not faulty, in the simplest setup.

Connect your router to U2 via RJ45. Connect U2 to DAC via USB. Do not go through the Gaia yet. (Not using Roon) Try Qobuz Connect using Qobuz app, internet radio using Lumin app, and Spotify Connect using Spotify app (may use a Spotify free account).

To deal with the problem of DSD, make sure Lumin Volume Control is disabled in Lumin app. After your connections are done, with USB DAC turned on, then restart Roon.

Thanks for your patience.

We can see that the Lumin U2 is discovered successfully by Roon at 192.168.50.208 and that RAAT connects to it. However, the audio capabilities reported back to Roon by the Lumin U2 show PCM up to 192 kHz and DSD64. This suggests that Roon is displaying the capabilities currently reported by the Lumin/USB chain rather than reducing them by itself.

Because of that, the next best step is to test the Lumin U2 in the simplest possible setup:

  1. Connect the Lumin U2 directly to the router via standard RJ45 Ethernet.

  2. Connect the Lumin U2 directly to the DAC via USB.

  3. Temporarily bypass the Denafrips Gaia, the SFP connection, and any additional switches.

  4. In the Lumin app, make sure Lumin Volume Control is disabled.

  5. Power on the DAC first, then restart the Lumin U2, then restart Roon Server.

Please then test playback outside of Roon using Qobuz Connect or Internet Radio in the Lumin app. After that, please check whether the full expected USB capabilities appear again in Roon.

Buongiorno Alex. Purtroppo nonostante abbia eseguito il procedimento consigliato da te e da Peter il problema permane. Ho provato anche Tidal direct e le radio lumin ma niente da fare. Voglio sottolineare che appena installato il Lumin nella mia catena ha funzionato per un po’ presentando via via i balbettii con tentativi di passaggio al brano successivo per poi silenziarsi definitivamente.

Inoltre sul signal Path del brano in riproduzione appare il formato audio corretto ma non viene identificata l’uscita digitale ( il Denafrips Gaia) ma solo il bridge,( il Lumin).

Sul Denafrips Gaia 15th invece il formato è bloccato a 44.1 khz e non corrisponde al formato in riproduzione per esempio 192 khz.

Please test local FLAC file playback with Lumin direct to DAC (not through Gaia).
