· My DAC, streamer, or speaker doesn't appear as a Zone in Roon
What type of Zone is affected by this problem?
· *Directly-connected Zones* are affected.
Is your device connected directly to the Roon Server via cable or over the network, or is it chained through another device (such as a streamer, Roon Bridge, or Roon Remote)?
· It is connected through a different device (e.g Rasberry Pi)
Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?
· The device has no problems with another audio source
Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?
· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains
Since you are using a network connection to the device, please ensure that your RoonServer is on the same subnet as the device
· My devices are on a single subnet but is not visible to Roon
Do you have a complex network setup?
· I have a *mesh network* with devices connected to multiples points
Your local network might need some re-arranging to support Roon.
· None of the suggestions have helped me. I'd like to submit a support request.
What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
· ZenWiFiAX, Ethernet
Describe the issue
I am using Roon on a Macintosh computer in a living area. It uses an outboard DAC for audio, and I set up Roon to use this device. From time to time, the device disappears as an Audio Zone choice in Roon. This might last for a few minutes or a few days. It is maddening, and I don't know what could be wrong as this is the only function this computer has.
Describe your network setup
Asus Mesh Router system with Roon devices connected via Ethernet.
Assuming you’ve already granted RoonServer local network access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network, does toggling this option off/on again cause Zones to reappear?
the screenshot you’ve shared is from a separate Mac than your RoonServer machine
the DAC in question is connected via ethernet as a networked Zone
Are both of these assumptions correct? If so, we have an additional suggestion.
Diagnostic logging shows evidence that multicast announcements might not be passing across the mesh network correctly. I recommend verifying that IGMP snooping and multicast forwarding are enabled in your router settings.
This would be a separate symptom from what’s displayed in your screenshot, a loss of connection between the loopback and coreaudiod on the controller Mac itself (losing all Zones). That issue has a dedicated ticket already as mentioned above.
In the meantime, I took advantage of a Black Friday special and procured a new Windows computer to replace the aging Macintosh that we have been discussing. It is, in fact, now acting as the Roon Server. Please feel free to close this ticket. On the other hand, I am experiencing a problem with the new Windows computer while running Roon. Even though the Audio setting is “DSD over PCM v1.0 (DoP),” Roon is converting DSD to PCM anyway. Do you have any insight into this? (If I need to start a new thread to ask this question, please let me know.)
