Describe the issue

Auralic Aries Icon is not showing anymore.
I normally use the Aries connected via Coax to a Heed DAC. The Aries icon has been showing correctly for years. Lately I tested the Aries on a USB DAC (Teac UD507) and used the TEAC Icon for that zone. Now I reverted back to the Heed DAC via Coax but the icon is stuck with the Teac one. I can see the Aries is recognised and see its icon in the set up screen, however when I try to change it in the zone icons list I only get the TEAC as default one (see screenshot).
How can I get the Aries Icon showing up again?
thanks

Describe your network setup

Wired LAN > Roon ROCK on NUC i3 > Auralic Aries V1 (Wired) > Heed Obelisk DA Dac

First, Roon cannot see any device connected via S/PDIF since this interface provides no signalling. Roon will only report on the streamer.

Second, zone icons are not device icons. These are typically to distinguish different listening locations in the home. The device icon is located under device settings.

Hi there
Thanks formyour reply but there is something wrong in what you said.
Aries is a Roon certified streamer, its icon should show up regardless of the connection.

It did show up for the past 8 years, aleays using the coax connection to the same dac.

Here is an old screenshot of the Aries icon correctly showing

So, it would seem that the DAC is connected via S/PDIF, and the Aries via a network connection. Therefore, the DAC won’t be visible to Roon, and the endpoint reported in Roon is the Aries.

Zone icons are displayed instead of device icons once set. So, what icon is displayed under Settings → Audio? If the Aries is misidentified, use the device settings to re-identify the device.

The aries is correctly identified in settings, however it displays with a wrong icon and I did not find any device setting that can fix that. Also tried loading defaults or disabling/re enabling the zone but it did not work. Same for a full power cycle.

What icon do you see that is incorrect?

the icon shown on the “Zone Setitngs” is incorrect because that is the TEAC icon:

When I click “Edit Zone Icon” I get an incorrect icon again because it’s showing the TEAC as the default one and then different Roon icons. The Aries Icon is not there:

the icon shown in the “device set up” screen is the correct one:

Hey @alessandro_niola,

Thanks for sharing your report!

If you haven’t yet, before anything else - safely stop Roon Server from running, and reboot your ROCK, audio devices, and your router, then reboot everything and see if you still run into icon issues.

If you do, let’s see if a RAAT Server refresh may help you. You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

We’ll be on standby for your reply!

Hi Benjamin,
thanks for your support.
I tried the procedure you suggested but it did not work.
During the process, I found I have 2 RAAT folders, one on the Core and the other an a Mac Mini I use as a remote. I have renamed both of them just in case to RAATServer_old but when I relaunched the app I still see the wrong icon.

Hi @alessandro_niola ,

Please give this a try:

  1. Create a Backup of your Roon database

  2. Stop Roon on your server machine by using the Web UI

  3. Navigate to your database location

  4. Open the folder named “Cache” inside your Roon folder

  5. Delete the file named “Devicedb-prod.zip” and “Devicedb-prod.zip.etag” if you have that file as well

  6. Start Roon once more on the server machine from WebUI

Let us know if this helps!

thanks Noris,

I did this procedure as well
The 2 files deleted were immediately re created as soon as I started the server again :

Unfortunately it did not work and I still see the wrong icon :frowning:

The correct one is available only in the device setup screen:

Thanks for giving that a try @alessandro_niola! We’ll need to get our team to take a closer look into this issue for next steps.

In the meantime, you’re still connected via Roon Ready, correct?

If you haven’t yet, I’d also reinstall the latest firmware for the device and see if that helps. Thank you!

thanks @benjamin
Yes, the Aries is connected via Roon Ready:

Also, the device is using its latest firmware.
