Authentication issue post-update with lifetime subscription (ref#WYRDTF)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· After updating tells me I am already signed in and then tells me to get more authentication then wants me to subscribe but I have a lifetime subscription

Tell us about your home network

· Roon is on an iMac and the music is stored downstairs on a hard drive

Is this screen photo complete? Does it show the whole screen?

Normally, when that screen is shown, there is an ‘unauthorize’ button in the bottom right of the screen. Selecting this will remove the association of your licence with any previously used server and allow you to set it up on the new one. No Roon database or music storage is lost during this procedure.

One reason that this is sometimes required is that Roon occasionally gets confused over Server machine identity and thinks you are trying to use a different server when in fact the same server is being used.

The strange thing is that it normally says „your subscription allows you to sign in to 1 Roon Servers at a time“, like here (and shows the Unauthorize button):

But in @keyse1’s case it says „authorize up to 0 devices“, so that text (and other text pieces) differs a bit and „0“ seems strange.

And I believe we see the bottom edge of the screen in @keyse1‘s photo, where the Unauthorize button should normally be. The button missing makes sense, I guess, if Roon thinks that there are „0“ subscriptions.

@keyse1 are you running the latest Roon update?

I agree, with @Suedkiez,

Roon Support will be along to help but, in the meantime here’s I wondering if Roon Server is having trouble reaching Roon’s backend licencing services … here’s something @keyse1 to try:

First reboot your router and any other network related equipment … then …

Since you’re running macOS, the behavior you’re seeing is consistent with the newer, stricter Local Network permission controls in the recent macOS releases.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Open macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
  2. Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both enabled
  3. Even if they are already enabled, please toggle them off and back on
  4. Fully quit Roon Server from the macOS menu bar / task bar
  5. Reboot your Mac
  6. After reboot, launch Roon again and check if the devices is avaliable again.

Once these permissions are refreshed and the system restarted, your audio devices should reappear.

I hope this helps, if not we’ll have to see what advice Roon have.

@keyse1,

Thanks for reaching out.

We checked your account and can confirm that you have a valid Lifetime subscription.

It is possible that you have more than one instance of the Roon application installed on your Mac, which could be causing this issue.

Could you please open Terminal and run the following command to check?

count=$(mdfind "kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == 'com.roon.Roon'" | wc -l); echo "You have $count Roon instances"

Please share the output with us.

Also, we recommend checking if you have Roon installed or active on any other machines in your setup.

Thanks.

Can’t seem to add a photo
Terminal says
You have 1 Roon instances

Actually that image you posted is what mine shows now with the exception that under devices it says Rays -iMac
Thanks for replying

In this case, this is just the occasional Roon confusion. Click the Unauthorize button, then you can choose the iMac as your Roon Server again

I’m still confused by what it showed in your original photo, but maybe it doesn’t matter

@keyse1,

Thanks for confirming.

In this case, it is likely we are dealing with a minor bug or a corrupt file in the current installation.

Could you please try performing a clean reinstall of Roon?

:warning: Important: This process involves deleting your current database. Please ensure you have a valid backup before proceeding.

  1. Quit Roon completely.
  2. Navigate to your Mac's ~/Library/ folder and delete the RoonServer (or Roon) folder.
  3. Download and Reinstall the latest version of Roon.
  4. Launch Roon and Restore from your backup.
If you do not have a valid backup, please let us know before proceeding, and we will try a different approach to avoid data loss.

Thanks.

I’m a bit worried that I wouldn’t be able to do what you suggest
What about the suggestion from suedkiez to use the de authorise button and then reselect the iMac as the server
Could that work
Ray

Hello @keyse1 ,

Yes, you can give the unauthorize button a try. Let us know if this helps!
