Hi there, I’ve just finished manually updating thousands of albums and singles with Album Art taken from Discogs. Mostly for my ripped vinyls that were not recognised by Roon metadata. Next but even more tedious is to add genres roon metadata is not providing for these files. I’m looking for an automated solution to this task. I’m running Rock on my Nuc and am not a software savvy person. So ideally an out if the box solution. If it exists at all of course.
Is this a viable option?
- Use 3rd party tool to batch edit id3 tags and include album genres
- Enable Roon to use file based metadata genre detection
- Manually trigger Roon to rescan albums that are missing genre data
Batch editing metadata as mentioned by @Dadoo is a good option. Alternatively you can batch edit in Roon, although it might be a bit more tedious. If you go to Albums>Focus>Inspector, select Has Genres, then click on the Genres filter box to turn it to a negative and you’ll have all albums with no genre. You can then sort by artist, select multiple albums at a time and edit them to add a genre.
Thanks fo thinking with me, I have hought abot this, but as a last resort. Mainly because I don’t know if a third party tool can see what is on my NUC. But I’ll keep this in mind.
Thanks Anton, indeed maybe a bit more tedious but then again more ROON true. I think I’ll try this to see if this is workable.
In some cases my songs are all over the place. For example I combine songs from singles, compilations etc into what is the album from which the songs originate. Will songkong keep my created albums or will all songs return to the compilation album
It has a run without changes option so you can see outputs. The status report as below can be run in the free version.
You can also run it on subsection of folders etc. It’s a very powerful bit of software.
Your own creations would definitely not survive a wholesale running as they are completely artificial.
I played with it this morning. I guess it’s a good tool when you have the correct album in the correct folder. I think for me it will be manual labour using the tools Roon provides
