Avoid suggesting in "new releases for you" albums already in my library

“New albums for you” keeps on suggesting albums already in my library, which is not the assumed goal of the functionality, right?

If this feature suggestion is important to you, please vote for it by using the Vote button at the top of the thread. Thank you.

I have an alternate idea that could help, what I’ve been interested in for a long time is to have an indicator that lets me know what new albums are related to my existing library, thus I suggest adding a couple new selection tabs, one for Artist and a 2nd for Album, thus clicking on those would show all NEW albums related to music in my library, which would shorten my search as I want new music related to what I already like.

currently the tabs do not work like Focus items where you can select one then click it again to reverse the selection, which is also needed to make new albums review easier.
So double click on the ‘Album’ tab would get rid of all albums you already have and likewise for an ‘Artist’ tab.

If nothing else the “In Library” badge could help, I decided to try that out, went through the list and added an album then re-viewed the list and that album was missing, then I removed the album and it never came back, so there is plenty of work here Roon could do to improve things.

This feature suggestion doesn’t make much sense, because this has always been its intended functionality.

There are two possibilities I can think of which would result in “new releases for you” albums which are already in your library.

  1. Those albums in your library are not identified, so Roon doesn’t “know” what they are.
  2. A new version of an older album has been released which has not yet been “equivalenced” to the main album group.

If it’s neither of these, then a support query should be raised.

Neither of those.

Current examples in my library:

  • Bartees Strange “Horror”: In my library, well identified and suggested in “new releases for you”
  • The Wombats “Oh! Ocean”: idem
  • Horsegirl “Phonetics on and on”: idem

Out of 36 suggested albums in “new releases for you”, 7 are already in my library. Of those, 5 were released 2/3 days ago, 1 one week ago and 1 2 weeks ago

Hmm. It almost seems like you have not added those albums to your library.

…but they are added…

Maybe it’s just a timing issue. You posted this suggestion three days ago, on February 14 or 15. The albums were released on February 14 and you added them on February 14 or 15. Why is it a problem that they are still showing up in New Releases? Maybe it takes a day or two.

@Ricardo_Damborenea Did you have to identify these two albums manually?

Some of the albums showed as “suggested” yet in my library, yes. Not sure if all of them.

Sorry, what I meant was: did Roon automatically identify these albums when you added them to your library or did you have to use the identification wizard? (Album → Edit → Identify).

I did that (what you say) with some of them, not sure if with all (I think not)

Thanks for the info. It’s really hard to say what’s going on in your examples, and timing seems to be a factor here.

It’s possible that you may have (manually) identified some of these albums against some early stub (trackless) metadata which are treated as completely different albums. (If full metadata were available when you added the albums to Roon, then you wouldn’t have had to manually identify.)

If these albums are still appearing in the New Releases For You section, you might want to use the Album → Edit → Re-identify button on the albums in your library to re-identify them and see if the problem goes away.
