Describe the issue
B&O Emerge speaker drops when music starts playing on Chromecast protocol. This behavior is new since latest upgrade of Roon. Speaker was working fine before. When zone drops, the speaker seems to reboot (Chromecast protocol) and reappears as a zone after 30 seconds.
If using the speaker with Airplay2, it's working fine.
Describe your network setup
Roon Rock, UniFi wired network between all components.
Hi @Guy_Maurier,
Thanks for reaching out to us to report this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
Thanks for the follow-up! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find anything related to the issue you’ve posted about. Could you please share a fresh timestamp again but this time include the track title as well?
In the meantime, let’s also have you:
Close and restart Roon (safely stop Roon Server first)
Unplug your B&O Emerge speaker, wait for about 10 seconds, and then plug it back in.
Restart Your Network Equipment: This includes your router and any switches or extenders.
If possible, test another Chromecast-enabled device with Roon to see if the issue persists.
Simplify your network connection, and set a direct ethernet connection from the endpoint directly to your router.
You were not able to see the audio zone (Beo Emerge) drop?
I’ve replicated this case again at 8:49am EST on November 15th, the song is Plus Tot from Alexandra Streliski.
My Roon server is shutdown every night.
Done before each replicated shared timestamp.
Done as well.
I’m facing this same issue with my Beo A9 speaker (Zone Bureau Guy Beo A9). Timestamp 8:53am EST November 15th, the song is Lazy from Noir Desir.
I can’t connect directly to the router. Single switch where speaker and Roon server are connected. Switch is connected to router.
With the Beo A9, the song starts for 1 or 2 seconds with static sound and drops. The Beo Emerge does not play any sound, it just drops.
We can see a Google Nest Hub sending mDNS announcements in logs that return failures in RoonServer. The B&O Cast endpoint itself is also dropping off, but only when the entire cast ecosystem resets.
A possible culprit here is multicast forwarding between managed network equipment.
The B&O Airplay Zone is actually dropping out, although Roon recovers the Zone in time.
We need a more complete picture of this network topology to troubleshoot further. What is the make/model of network switch involved?
Have you enabled multicast forwarding, IGMP snooping and related settings in your main router administration page?
Is this B&O endpoint connected via ethernet or WiFi?
