Crashed first time I opened Roon ARC on all three IOS devices (iPhone and 2 iPads), but OK after that. Will test CarPlay as soon as my wife gets home with the car.
With ARC build 104 Carplay is working better; higher performance!
Images and the playing queue are loading faster. But … there is still a (little) waiting time needed before the first track is playing.
CarPlay is horrible. Does not work. Locks up. Crashes phone. Wants me to log in again.
EDIT: Albums only show 8 albums out of 3,000. It shows one or two tracks from each of these 8 albums. I have no idea what order they are in.
Thanks for the feedback, but can you add more details?
Given we are pushing data to the code managed by Apple, there is not much we can get from internal logs. Maybe you can pick one of those issues you experience and try to reproduce it a couple of times and explain what you need to do to get into it? It will help us to move faster
Have you guys tried to use it? I went back out and logged in. It took several minutes to log me in using cellular. I’ll try it again tomorrow to see if it works any better.
EDIT: The really bad experience I just had may be a special circumstance, but it’s one that might happen a lot. CarPlay was playing when I parked in a parking lot to pick up my dog from her haircut. I turned off the car, but did not stop CarPlay first, did not turn off my iPhone, and did not unplug the CarPlay USB input cable. Of course, music stopped when I turned off the car and opened the door.
About 10 minutes later, I can out and started the car and CarPlay resumed playing, then everything quickly went south. I don’t remember, but I was probably looking for another album to play.
All working now on 1.04 ,on CarPlay loaded quickly ,chose an album and started quickly enough within a couple of seconds.
I’m sure it’s being addressed Would be nice to pick a few more albums than the (approximately 10) 2what are there but I am pleased to say it worked great this morning! ……one annoying thing is I do find myself logging back in to arc a lot doesnt seem to be saving my login details very well. Good work guys ….look forward to trying it again tonight on the run home.
B1180 ROCK Core on NUC10i3
ARC B104 on iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 16.1.2
CarPlay on Pioneer DMH-Z6350BT
Home Screen and Now Playing images load without issue.
Artists, Albums and Composers are stuck on “Loading”, I left it for about 10 minutes until I changed screen, makes no difference if I start ARC from the iPhone or CarPlay.
Full signal on 5G.
Music plays pretty much instantaneously without issue.
Build 107 with more CarPlay fixes it out. We really think we’ve nailed everything now. Let’s us know!
Thanks. Will give it a try this afternoon. Is there a way to find the album I want or is it arbitrary which ones show up on CarPlay?
Right now browsers are sorted by date modified, but we are planning to change that to inherit the sorts you’ve chosen in app. Better searching like voice-activated is on the long term roadmap, but won’t make the first cut.
I’m not interested in voice activated anything, but for CarPlay to be useful, I would want full access to all of my albums. Otherwise, Apple Music will be my choice with CarPlay.
Take a look at how many albums you can view with the latest build, B107. We’ve extended the lists to the max allowable in Carplay Hopefully you are finding what you need.
OK, seems to be working now, but I will never use it. Here’s why.
CarPlay is showing 50 arbitrary or random albums with a couple tracks showing from each. There is no way to search, even these 50, other than scroll down while trying to drive.
So, maybe I can search by artist. Nope, there are no artists shown in CarPlay.
I’m sorry, but this is not useful for me unless I just want to play a daily playlist or downloaded music. I only have 5 downloaded (local) albums so I have no idea how many of those are available for people with lots of downloads.
Here’s something else. I can plug my iPad, that doesn’t do CarPlay, into my car’s USB jack and use the full Roon ARC with all available music, artists etc. I can see it on the screen by choosing “What’s playing.” Why can’t Roon’s CarPlay app access this same information?
Hmm, this shouldn’t be the case. What do you see?
CarPlay is showing 50 arbitrary or random albums with a couple tracks showing from each.
Are there tracks missing from the albums? Are you missing albums from your list entirely? As I mentioned the sort should be recently modified, so it should not be random.
All of the other points—totally fair. Can you elaborate on how you personally might use it? It sounds like playing a very specific thing is important to you.
I don’t know how the 50 albums are sorted. If it’s “recently modified,” I’m not sure why I want that. Alphabetical by artist would be better. That’s 50 out of 3000 albums linked from Tidal and Qobuz. Yes, I want to play whatever it is I want to play, not one of 50 arbitrary albums. I only played the first song of several albums so I assume it would play the entire album, IDK.
No artist. I don’t remember the message on the screen.
Someone should go sit in their car and use Apple Music on CarPlay. Make it work like that.
Siri integration is high on my personal priority list for CarPlay, I use Siri as much as possible when driving so that I do not have to touch the car stereo at all.
It worked quite well with TIDAL on CarPlay but hopefully it can be improved with Roon so that you can play a specific album, specific tracks would be amazing as my kids are always asking for certain songs on the journey.
