B1228, B1235, B1253 - Roon does NOT start on Win 10 [Investigating, probably screen resolution related]

The current production build of Roon starts fine on my older lappy, but the two latest Early Access builds will NOT start… (b1228 and b1235)

Now, when checking the Roon Log it is pretty obvious that the build referenced in the b1235 announcement points to b1228 of Win x64 full install? I downloaded it twice with the same result…

Hi, @Mikael_Ollars, thank you for your report. Could you, please, use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? We are going to investigate this but were not able to reproduce this locally.

@ncpl, based on your description, your problem might be different and is related to the auto-update issue our dev team is trying to fix. In that case no log file is written when Roon fails to start on your end.

Well, since i deleted my complete Roon folder structure before reinstall, there are no more logs than the one i posted above here?

Hey @Mikael_Ollars !

Since we cannot reproduce this issue on our side, could you please tell us more about your screen settings?
Probably, not only the native screen resolution plays a role, but also the calculation of free space on the screen for deploying the Roon UI.
In this case, the size of the taskbar, it’s automatic hiding, or its location on the screen - on top or on the side is important and may play a role. Screen scaling is also important to consider.
Please, attach your settings as screenshots, if it’s not too much trouble.

Latest Early Access build available should be b1253, at least that is what i downloaded right now.
No luck though, Roon does not start on my HP Elitebook 8460p

The machine is very “standard”.
Customization of the task bar is mainly to disable/hide the usual Microsoft crap, like Search, Cortana, Hand writing etc.
Task bar is locked, by default i think, bottom of the screen, no auto hide or such.

Worth mentioning though, is that i no longer run Early Access on my Core. (when this issue surfaced, i did)

Build 2153 app will not load/start on my Windows 10 PC.

Roon core (upgraded to build 2153) works fine via my iPad Air (running build 1192).

Also getting the same issue, Build 1253 application will not start post version update. Screen resolution is standard 1920 x 1080 on a Win 10 Laptop.

Hi, @hmack, @JCD, could you, please, tell me am I getting it right that you manually installed Roon on your Windows machine? Did you have the same problem with the previous Early Access build?

As suggested above, I’ve reinstalled Roon build 1253 on my Windows 10 PC (over the existing installation) and my Windows 10 control app is now working again.

In reply to the above question, my problem occurred when I chose the “Update All” option on my Windows 10 PC today. My Windows 10 app would then not load/start. However, reinstalling build 1253 on my Desktop PC appears to have resolved the problem.

This has happened once previously with an Early Access build (quite recently) but I can’t remember with which build.

Update - it was build 1228

Hi Ivan, I used the update function within the roon application using the previous Early Access build which worked fine. My ROCK core works on the new build as does a iPhone version of Roon - it is just the Win 10 PC version that will not start post the update - has worked fine for all other Early Access builds.

Thank you, @hmack, as it was mentioned in the release notes, we had issues with autoupdate for Windows builds, starting from #1253 updates they should be resolved but #1253 should be installed manually.

@JCD, could you, please, try installing #1253 manually on your machine and see how it goes?
