B1254 Roon Remote start is blocking internet connection [Investigating]

Since a week or two every time I am starting the Roon remote that is installed on the same Windows 10 maschine as Roon Core, my whole internet connection is blocked for more than a minute on this PC. Remote shows “Waiting for core” and all other programs can also not use the internet. A playing song is not interrupted in this period of time and Remotes on other device are also not affected.

@support 15 days now and nothing?

Hi, @AE67. Thank you for your report. Could you, please, tell if that issue occurs on Early Access builds only or production branch build is also affected?

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan, I did not try to get back to production branch build. But the problem exists now long enough, that it is not a single build.

I have more info now, the problem seems to only occur if my audio zone is active. Could today start two times with not active audio zone (device was off) without problems. After closing the Roon remote, starting my audio device and restarting Roon remote, the problem was back. Starting and searching for Core took apr. 2 minutes with completly blocking the internet connectiong of this PC. After this waiting time everything works fast and without problems till I shut down the remote and try to start it again.

Thank you for your response.

The reason I am asking about the production build behaviour is because Early Access is running on .NET6 while production is still using an older version of .NET framework. That said, it can be a useful data point for our dev team

But the problem exists now long enough, that it is not a single build.

Could you, please, provide more data about what this device is and how it’s connected?

my audio zone is active

Thanks!

Yamaha R-N602 network receiver via Airplay.
Yamaha and Core-PC (same as Remote) has ethernet cable connection to my FritzBox router.
Nothing else is involved in my audio chain.

Understood, thank you.

Could you, please, do the following:

  1. Reproduce this issue once again
  2. Collect logs from both your RoonServer running as a Core on your Windows machine and Roon Remote running on the same machine by using the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?

Thanks!

Ivan

Logs submitted.
Started Remote on 22:18
Start finished on 22.21

Thank you for your help

Thank you, @AE67. May I kindly ask you to install the latest production build as your Roon Remote and see if the problem is still present when you start it?

When you are done with test I asked for above, could you, please, also perform the following test and upload a new set of logs:

  1. Launch RoonServer
  2. Let it run for a minute or so
  3. Reproduce this issue on an Early Access branch build
  4. Submit logs using the same instructions as before.

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan
thank you for your response. I can do the production build test tomorrow.
For the second test I maybe unterstand something wrong. The test with Early Access branch build is exactly what I have done yesterday and is in the logs already submitted. What is the difference?

The difference is that you launched Roon Remote 10-15 seconds after launching RoonServer. In fact, the only difference is time here. In order to provide more data for comparison: normal state vs broken state:

Thanks!

Hi @ivan
the last 3 days the problem seems to be gone. Maybe an update of my virus scanner or firewall, I don’t know.
I will observe it and report in a few days.
