B1684 iOS phone stability

I have been using B1684 quite a lot since last week always driving from the iPhone.

I have been seeing a significant uptick in instances of the app crashing in the background.
e.g. I select stuff to play, manage the queue etc and then put the phone down. On coming back to the phone and Roon app I get a “roon has crashed” message and the option to send report via Testflight. I have sent a few of these.

This behaviour hasn’t been happening for a while until this latest build (I skipped the previous broken build as I was away so it could have started there).

iPhone 16 Pro also updated recently to iOS 26.6 so cannot rule out that being a factor.

@noris let me know if you want logs etc

My  reflects I’m seeing the same behaviour and on a few occasions Roon gets stuck using 1 CPU core at 100%.

I have felt like I had this occasionally for a long time. Didn’t notice a recent change but I wouldn’t be sure. Anyway, I also submitted quite a few of these through Testflight.

11 days later I am still getting a lot of app crash in background.

Team Roon….. do you see the same ?

I’m getting these crashes too.

Hi, @ncpl ! Thanks for reporting this. We’d like to dig into the background crashes. To find where it’s happening, we need a debug log from a device that hit the crash, plus a few details.

  1. Enable logging:
    • Force-quit Roon Remote (swipe it away from the App Switcher).
    • Open Roon Remote again.
    • Go to Settings in the app.
    • Turn on “Save logs to Files on next startup”.
    • Close Roon Remote, then open it again - logging is now active.
  2. Next time it crashes, please send us:
    • The exact time of the crash (hour and minute).
    • Your phone model.
    • Your iOS version.
    • What you were doing right before locking the screen (track, album, playlist, now playing queue, backgrounding/foregrounding app, lock the screen, etc).
    • Which zone you had selected.
  3. Upload the log file:
    • Open the Files app on your phone and find the log file (it will be in the Roon folder).
    • Upload it to our Logs Upload Server
    • Once uploaded, reply here (or send us a DM) with the link and the details from step 2.

Thanks for your patience!

Sure thing. Will do.

Since I activated the logs on the phone I haven’t had a single background crash. What’s with that !?!? :upside_down_face:

Might be helping the app keep running in the background and in turn it could mask what’s causing the app to crash in the first instance.
