B182 ARC Roon doesn't recognize iFi HipDac with full capabilities [Investigating]

Hi everyone,

Before the 18x-builds my USB DAC played up to 48khz with no MQA. Unfortunately this hasn’t changed, since ARC shows in the attribute page only the label “48khz”.

And for MQA it’s the same, Roon shows that the audio is authenticated, but seems to not give it to the DAC?

The DAC itself could play 384khz with MQA or up to DSD512.

And ARC is since the latest build regularly “lost connection to USB DAC”.

Do you have any idea for these two bugs?
Kind regards,
Lars

Hi, @Kersten_Kusch, thank you for your report. Could you, please, specify, which the OS of your mobile device?

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan,
my main driver is a Google Pixel 7 Pro with Android 4 Beta 2, the same issue appears on my Google Pixel 6 with stock Android 13

Thanks! Am I getting it right that you have the USB Driver turned on when you reconnect the DAC after getting this error?

Ivan

Absolutely right :+1:

Understood, thank you!

I enabled additional logging for your account, so could you, please, do the following:

  • Restart Roon ARC
  • Try to reproduce this issue once again
  • Send me a timestamp in your local time when the issue occurs

Thanks!

Ivan

@ivan
I just tested it. 13:18-13:19 local time. I pressed play, after 38s ARC disconnected the DAC a first time and ~40s later it happens again.

Hi, @Kersten_Kusch, sorry for the delay. I analysed your logs and sent a ticket to our dev team for further investigation.

Thanks!

Hi @ivan ,
whould you mind giving me an update regarding this bugs?

Kind regards,
Lars

Hi, @Kersten_Kusch, I spoke to our dev team on Friday and I’d like to ask you if the appearance of the lost connection to USB DAC depend on the content you play? Like, for example, does it only appear when you are playing MQA or local files, or files from TIDAL/Qobuz?

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan,
unfortunately not. The playback fails for every file regardless, if streamed, locally, mp3 or mqa.

I think it’s probably related to the pixel devices, since USB Audioplayer Pro issued a big bugfix update last week, which resolved pretty similar issues

Understood, thank you for the answer, I am going to pass this info to our dev team.

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan ,
would you mind giving me an status update?

Hi, @Kersten_Kusch, unfortunately, this issue is still with our dev department and they are looking into it.

Thanks!

Ivan

Hi @ivan ,
I just updated to the latest release. Now Roon ARC shows the correct abilities of the DAC. MQA works now for the first 40s afterwards the connection is still lost. For High-res-flacs matter’s worse. I have a 384kHz-file which is downsampled to 48kHz no matter what…

Hi, @Kersten_Kusch, apologies for troubles. In the latest release we had a fix for another problem with the USB Driver. The ticket related to the issue you are having is still with the dev department and is being investigated.

Apologies for the wait.

Ivan

Hi @ivan ,
even in the latest release this is unfixed. What’s the state here?

Kind regards,
Lars
