Backing Up Roon Database on Catalina MAC OS

Hi, I know there has been discussions regarding Backing Up the Roon Database on MAC OS Catalina and having permissions issues.

I recently upgraded my Mac Mini 2014 to Catalina for Roon 2.0. Now the back up does not work and it seems to be a folder permissions issue.

I have read most of the posts regarding this, but cannot get it working as it was on the previous MacOS.

Should I just upgrade to Big Sur or Monterey? Will that solve this?

Any guidance will be appreciated. All the Best, Ron

Ron,

It’s usually a good idea to get the most recent version of macOS; unless there is a good reason not to - such as a vital piece of software which will not run on anything later than X.

Catalina (10.15) is five years old now. It may well be that there are good reasons related to some aspect of why your backup is failing

This page may help guide you as to what RoonLabs recommends

Not guaranteed at all. Perhaps wise first to find out why it’s failing: what error messages are you getting? Why do you suspect permissions? Has Roon backup ever worked?

Thanks Mark and makes sense. Yes the backups have been working for years. When I upgraded my 2014 Mac Mini to Catalina for Roon 2.0, that is when the permissions issue came up. Its got to be a MAC OS folder share issue, just cant figure it out yet  Hopefully support has some ideas, otherwise I will update to Big Sur. Thanks again!

I’m not a member of the support team, but I remember when I upgraded to Catalina, there were a whole slew of disk permission issues that I had to sort out.

Thank you Joel. I updated to Big Sur and was then able to establish a proper shared folder for the Roon Backups. Yea, solved!!
