Describe the issue

I have three directories that I use to backup my Roon database. 2 of the 3 suddenly stopped working -- "Backup failed - Backup Directory not available". I'm using macOS Sequoia 15.6.1. The two directories that are no longer available are an attached external hard drive (not where I store music) and a folder in Users>marksalkind. What is beyond frustrating is that this is the 5th time this has happened. Everything backs up for 6-8 months and then stops working. I spend significant amount of time trying to figure out what to do -- with no success. Can you help? Please note: everything was working correctly for months.

Hello @Mark_Salkind,

macOS Sequoia (version 15) introduces tighter and more restrictive network and privacy settings compared to previous macOS versions.

Please navigate to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network, and make sure that both Roon and RoonServer are allowed. If they are already enabled, try toggling them off and back on, then reboot your Mac to see if the issue persists.

Additionally, please check the following:

  1. Full Disk Access: Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, and confirm that Roon and RoonServer are listed and enabled.
  2. Backup folder permissions: If one of the backup locations is on an external drive, verify that the drive is mounted correctly and that the folder path hasn’t changed (macOS can sometimes remount drives under a slightly different name, such as /Volumes/BackupDrive 1).
  3. iCloud folders: If the backup folder is located under your user directory and iCloud sync is enabled, make sure the folder is stored locally and not offloaded to iCloud.

Once these steps are completed, try running the backup again and let us know if the issue continues.

Describe the issue

Ok, I'm resubmitting this because it didn't get posted under Support: I backup my Roon database to three different places. As of a four days ago, two of those places stopped working and I received a message: "Backup failed - Backup Directory not available." Those Directories that were not available are an externally hard drive (not where I store music and not a watched folder) and a folder under Users>marksalkind (that's me). My operating system is macOS Sequoia 15.6.1
