I'm trying to run a backup to USB. I configure the drive as instructed and Roon tells me the backup drive is ready. I immediately try to run a backup and it tells me that no configured drive has been found. hat can I do?
Describe your network setup
It is Lacie backup drive connected directly to the roon server, nothing is running over my network
Fellow User. What OS (or device) are you using to run RoonServer? The basics of doing a backup are..
To do a Backup.
Make Sure you have formatted the external drive to exFAT. Also, (on another computer), add a folder called RoonBK to that drive (Note, you can call this anything, just don’t use spaces in the folder name).
It is asking for you to choose the location to Backup to, Click on Select Location ( btw, you will also be doing this to setup a Scheduled Backup).
Backup Location Selection Screen…
Prior to starting this I had plugged in a USB drive to the RoonServer, and I previously created the RoonBK folder. (Note the name of my RoonServer is Rocky)
You will note, that my passport USB drive will appear on the list on the left. And clicking it, it will present the folders on that drive, one of which is RoonBK which I had created. I will be selecting this.
When I select it I will get the following screen. Note the path I circled at the top, to verify that I am IN the location I want to create the backup.
Verify for the last time that the selected location is correct, if not, choose the Select Location button and change it. Once the location checks out, Click the Blue Start button.
You will get this screen. The amount of time this step takes will depend on the size of your library…
As a side note. If you are just setting up your server and it is going through and adding your library, you need to wait until that process is finished before doing a Backup.
Those screen shots do not look like Roon. It looks like you are using InnuOS options. Roon itself has no option to format external drives. And, there is not an option called “Auto-Backup”, Roon has Manual and Scheduled Backup options, so named. As shown in my screen posts.
If you were using Roon you would be seeing the exact screenshots I have posted. Roon Backups are created within the Roon program. IF InnuOS has other options, then you might want to reach out to their tech support, as well.
Welcome to the forum! As @Rugby mentioned, this does not look like the backup functionality from inside the Roon app, so we are unable to provide assistance with 3rd party backup tools, such as the ones on the innuOS server itself. After the drive has been formatted, please try to use Roon’s backup manager to perform the backup, and note that the backup only includes your Roon database, and not the music files themselves. For more information regarding Roon’s backup feature, please see:
We haven’t seen a response from you in several days and want to ensure you’re equipped to resolve the issue from here.
To reiterate, assisting with Innuos-specific backups outside of Roon is unfortunately not a task for which our team is equipped. Roon Backups are a scheduled or manual process performed internally to Roon software and stored in a local or network location. @noris’s post above contains a link to an article about Roon’s Backup architecture to learn more.
We don’t recommend relying on third-party services to backup your Roon database generally.
This thread will close shortly without any new responses, but please reach out in the meantime if we can assist further. Thank you!
Thanks for everyone’s help here. I have been trying to move from an old innuos box than was running Roon to a new Nucleus One. Semmto have got everything transferred over now.
