Backup of SSD external HD for music encountered several corrupted files in the 308ee334-72d0-92f1-7008-1cde9b607e87 directory. Rock backup has been failing
Can I delete this directory? Will it auto re-create/populatate once a backup is performed?

Hi @JamesW,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Were you trying to restore a backup when this happened? Can you supply some screenshots of the errors you are seeing and provide us with the steps you followed to get these errors?
Hello Daniel,
Thank you for the reply. The usb external music ssd m.2 drive was full. Decided to try my luck and deleted artist folders to free up 15gb of diskspace and rename the 12gb folder 308ee334-72d0-…with a number of corrupted files.
Attached the usb ssd drive to NUC8 Roon Rock and performed a manual backup. Great, no errors and able to access/play my music off that drive.
Soln: Unsure what that folder’s function was, but glad Rock did not need it.
Note that the backups were done to this external ssd and the last backup was 8/6/24. I was able to restore my NUC8 from this backup.
Thank you again for responding.
If you don’t mind, one quick confirmation please… I plan to expand my storage by replacing this 2TB ssd m.2 with a 5TB ssd m.2 using NTFS. Will Rock work/access all 5TB properly with external NTFS vs exFAT ?
Thanks for the follow up and I’m glad to hear you were able to sort things out!
Yes, your ROCK should be able to can access all 5TB properly via NTFS, but isn’t our recommendation over exFAT - there a few differences between NFTS and exFAT that are worth mentioning:
NTFS: Your ROCK will be able to read from NTFS-formatted drives but cannot write to them. This means you can play music from the drive, but you won’t be able to modify, delete, or add files directly to the drive through Roon.
exFAT: Your ROCK has full read and write support for exFAT. You can both access and modify files on an exFAT-formatted drive, making it a better overall option.
exFAT is typically the preferred format because it gives you both read and write capabilities, especially if you plan to manage your music library directly on the drive. NTFS will work for read-only access.
exFAT also tends to offer better compatibility across operating systems like Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it more versatile as well.
Understood. Misunderstood exFAT so actually exFAT max is 128 petabytes (PB), but the recommended maximum is 512 TB which is much more than the 5TB I want.
Alrighty! Is Rock recommended to use 512 bytes or 256 partitions on exFAT as there are only music & backup files?
