Describe the issue

Roon on my windows pc, backup suddenly stopped working 2 weeks ago. Backup set up cannot find folder, option to add new folder is invisible.

Describe your network setup

Running Roon software on windows 11 PC connected to Roon ROCK on linix NUC connected via home ethernet.

Hi @Donald_Parkin,

How precisely were you Backing Up - were these scheduled Backups to a shared folder hosted on the PC, or was there a separate USB or network location you’d specified?

Windows background upgrades can disable the network discovery service, making it difficult for the PC to find or be found by other devices.

Open File Explorer and select the Network icon in the navigation pane. If a message appears stating the service is off, you’ll have the option to turn it back on.

Please let us know if this helps. We’ll watch for your response and will follow up with next steps.

I had a scheduled backed up to a shared folder. The folder is there and i can access it fine. However Roon was saying it cannot.

I have no problem opening the netwok folder in Explorer.

Please note in the screenshot above. There is no button to add a folder. There is usually one under the + add network drive folder button.

Even if I try to do a manual backup, there is no option or button to add a folder

Any shared network share i try to add gets either unexpected error; unexpected error or
unexpected error: invalid network path

I have confirmed that SMB 1.0.CIFS file sharing is on, I have also verified that I can access the Roon backup directory from other computers on my network.

After numerous changes to window it seems that once turned off password protected charing and enabled file sharing for devices using 40 or 56 bit encryption that I was then able to back up to the directory.

After changing the password protected status back to on and the encryption back to 128 bit it continues to work. So I have no idea what was wrong, but it is working now.

Hi @Donald_Parkin,

Thank you for the update and we’re glad to hear functionality has returned.
