I recently moved Roon from an iMac 2023 to a Mac Mini M2. I’m in the process of arranging a new setup. Roon on the Mac Mini M2 was missing most of my playlists and favourited blue hearts on my favourite tracks and albums. Everything else was in place after backing up the iMac and restoring it to the Mac Mini M2.
I’m getting a new M4 Mac Mini next week and the final step will be to put the Roon Server on the new M4 transferring over from the iMac. What can I do to ensure that the M4 Mini is not missing the information above when setting up a new Roon server on it transferring over from the iMac?
Strangely enough on restoring the Roon to the iMac from the first Mac Mini M2 no information was missing? Does roon remember what is present on each computer that was previously a server?
Thanks for writing in! @Wade_Oram is steering you in the right direction here - you’ll want to make fresh backups of your current Roon Server, and then when you download and install Roon on the new Mac, all you’ll need to do is restore the saved backup.
Another step you may need to perform is setting up any updated storage paths to connect your local library. When you restore from a backup, it may save the older folder path that is no longer active or in relation to the m4, so head into Roon Settings>Storage after and edit your storage path to reflect your current path to your local library folders.
yes thanks that confirms all i need to do. looking forward to installing roon on the new mac mini 4 next weeks once they start shipping. the base model comes with 16gb ram.
