Describe the issue

I have migrated from Nucleus Plus to Titan and the new system will not recognize my backup. As a result, I cannot access any of my prior playlists. The message that I get is "No backups found" despite being able to see the RoonBackup file. When I first set up the Titan, I missed the step to restore and signed into my account. I have gone back and both reset the database and restarted the Roon server which got me back to the original screen. Unfortunately though the problem persists where the backup is not found or recognized.

Describe your network setup

I transferred my SSD from the Nucleus to the Titan. I made multiple copies of the backup on USBs. The server is connected directly to my network and the Roon software is on my Windows desktop running Windows 11 Pro.

Hi @deangivas,

Thank you for your post. Diagnostics from the Nucleus Titan show the drive availability of the Backup location fluctuating between Ready and NotReady.

How specifically are you restoring the Backup? Are you clicking the option from the bottom of the login screen, or navigating to the Backups → Find Backups dialog window after logging into this Titan with your credentials on a fresh database?

I am clicking the option from the bottom of the login screen before logging on. I initially made a backup on a USB and one on a backup hard drive. When the initial migration did not work, I reinstalled the SSD in the Nucleus Plus and created a third backup (on a separate USB). Note that when I connect each of those devices to my desktop I get a message that “there is a problem with this drive”. Despite the problem, I am able to access all of the files on the drive. For one of the USB’s, I used Windows to repair the drive and tried to access it from the Titan and again got the same message of “No backups found”.

Hi @deangivas,

This appears to be an NTFS formatting issue - please try the following with the USB stick on which you currently have the Backups saved.

  • Connect it to a Windows PC
  • Open Command Prompt on a Windows PC
  • Type chkdsk d: /f (assuming windows has assigned the external drive D)
  • Safely eject the drive from Windows task bar (icon may be hidden in the bottom right)
  • Connect drive again to main RoonServer (Titan) and see if the Backups are visible.
  • Verify if issue is resolved (attempt to restore)

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks!

I went thru the steps you listed. First of all, Windows reviewed the USB and responded that it “found no problems”. When I went to restore the backup, I encountered the exact same issue of “No backups found”. Every time that I have tried I can see the RoonBackups folder on the USB. Inside the RoonBackups folder is a file titled roon-backup-root which is 19 bytes and a folder titled with letters and numbers beginning 06de… Inside the aforementioned folders are more folders in increasing number beginning with 00, 01 etc. When I check the properties of the backup on the USB, it shows 152 MB with 795 files and 1,033 folders. Any more ideas?

One more thing, irrespective of whichever folder I select to restore from the same message of “No backups found” is generated.

Hello @connor, I have solved the problem. I bought a new USB that had no other files on it and went back to the Nucleus Plus to backup again. For whatever reason, the Titan would not recognize the backup on two other USB’s which also had other files on them. Problem solved although it would have been nice for more responsive technical support.
