How can we help?

· None of the above

Other options

· My Roon software won't start up

Describe the issue

I'm lost my roon server and want to connect again and place a backup on the system Roon Rock. I connect to server and then i have to log on. Go to safari, click on account and than it returns to my roon on my mac. But it is not logged in. When i select to restore a backup, the systems says: restore failed. Please check your backup folder and try again. It was on my Synology NAS, i replaced it to a hard drive directly on my nuc. Both do not work.

Describe your network setup

wired network. no issues with connection

Hey @Jelmer_Sijtsma,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! Sorry to her about your issues.

As a first step, could you attempt to access the webUI of your ROCK? Here’s more info on how to do this:

Let me know if you see any errors there.

I’d also test logging into your account page on the Roon website to confirm you’re able to do this:

When you attempt to restore a Backup In Roon:

  • Go to Restore Backup
  • Navigate to the root folder that contains RoonBackups (don’t click deeper)
Let me know if you run into the same issue. Thank you! 🙌

Thanks for your response. I already logged in on de WebUI but there are no issues there. Only thing is that is says that
Roon Database & Settings
OK
0% of 107 GB available.

I restarted the Server Software and did a power boot. No results.

I can log on to account.roon.app and see my subscription and other information

And I did select the folder RoonBackups an found my backup’s but than i can not install it.

When i go to my Roon App on my mobile apple device, the same happens. Can not log on to the system but everything just look fine. When i click on log on, it goes to the account.roon.app and i find my credentials, click on them and it returns to my roon app on my device but it’s not logged in (same screen as before).

Hello @Jelmer_Sijtsma,

Thank you for the update — your reply clarifies the situation.

Your system drive is full, which means there isn’t enough free space for Roon to operate normally or to restore a backup. Please ensure that you haven’t accidentally copied your music files to the internal system storage.

You mentioned:

This can also happen if multiple Roon backups were saved directly onto the internal drive, quickly filling it up.

To resolve this, please:

  • Remove any unnecessary files or backups from the internal system drive,
  • And restore your Roon backup directly from an external USB drive or network share, rather than copying backups onto the internal storage.

Once you free up space, the restore process should complete correctly.

Let us know how it goes or if you need help identifying what is taking up space.

Thank you very much. That was indeed the problem. There was one backup a made in the internal storage. Don’t know why, i must have made a strange backup. Nou 96% is free, and everything works well.

Hello @Jelmer_Sijtsma,

Thank you for the update — we’re glad to hear the issue is resolved.

As an important note, please try to keep the internal system storage below 80% usage. Linux-based systems can start to behave unpredictably or slow down when the system drive is nearly full.

Also, we strongly recommend not storing your Roon backups on the internal drive. If the drive fails, the backups will be lost as well. It’s much safer to keep them on:

  • an external USB drive,
  • a NAS, or
  • a network share.

And of course — enjoy your music!
