You did know what I mean; but as a matter of fact they do need their parent boxes… the first time I built the file, it didn’t work, so I had to insert the full path. But that’s OK: one of the many things I’ve learnt.
Merging wasn’t an issue because, I assume, Roon’s merged virtual album also takes care of all its components.
I did, though, come across one anomaly which I haven’t yet solved: double quotes in filenames.
Several of Beethoven’s piano sonatas have ‘titles’; the “Moonlight” (Number 14, Op. 27, No. 2) is perhaps the most famous.
For none of these did my built file work. IOW, neither

nor

appeared in the Playlist, which otherwise was pristine; just as I wanted.
I suppose one solution is to re-import those tracks having retagged them without speech marks. But given the amount of work I’ve put in to get this far, although I’ll do that if I have to, I wonder if you know of a workaround, please?
Or would it really be 100% safe to live-edit (the offending quotes out of) just those filenames in place in the Library, Roon not running, and then force Roon to rescan the Library?
I’ve learnt a lot! Thx…
