Be patient Roon user

1.8 just release. Give Roon team some time. They work very hard.

I think the lock down has a negative effect on the patience of some users. I like the new version as “concept”. I have to deal with some bugs like I did with many other software when new releases pop up. Not fun, but no disaster.

Yeah, I have no real issue with this – well, I could get rid of the gigantic “Hi, Bill!” that’s taking up half the home screen. Don’t people understand the actual meaning of “focus”?

I haven’t encountered any problems yet. Liking the new cleaner look and banished Radio tab.

I just disagree with features losing functionality but still being present in very limp, unusable ways, plus the many very obvious bugs. Most of this could have been avoided if Roon had more patience themselves. 1.7 was very stable and 1.8 is much less stable, much worse performance, many more bugs.

The only things you can do are wait and explain how your experience has regressed.

Reading through some of these posts, it seems pretty easy to know who you would enjoy speaking with at parties versus those that you’d avoid. The nitpicking to downright anger is astonishing.

A lot can be fix if you restart your Roon server or stop Roon server first and restart Roon core.

Link to “downright anger”?

You haven’t seen the threads calling it a “massive failure” or the anger posts throughout the forum? The ones saying they’re leaving and going back to Audirvana or overly upset about typefaces and certain features?

If I couldn’t adjust any of my settings or DSP because Roon couldn’t run a 5 minute test in another language, yeah I’d probably be calling it a massive failure too. I think anytime you release beta quality software in place of currently stable software, you risk upsetting users.

I also find it strange when people try to insert emotions for people using strong adjectives on a message board. I’m disappointed and frustrated that I’ve lost data and functionality in this release, but that’s neither nitpicking nor anger.

IIRC, I opted to upgrade within the hour of it being released and available… it wasn’t forced on anyone. If a music app is that important as people are making it seem… then just stay back and wait a few weeks.

It was clear from the forums that rolling back wasn’t an option… so if I knew that my life would be so severely impacted by Roon not working as before… I simply wouldn’t have upgraded on day one.

They should have worked harder before the release …

Sure some things are different, but I think the new release is a winner. Is it perfect? No. It just needs some tweaks, as this is a major release.

1.8 is indeed not stable. My Roon core is running on a Synology DS1019+ and I use an Allo USBridge as Roon bridge connecting to Denafrips Ares II DAC via USB. After upgrading to 1.8, the DAC kept disappearing and could not be seen by any Room remote. I was able to restore it each by rebooting Roon core on my server. Never had to do this before when the server was running Roon 1.7!!

Just had updates presented for my Core and iPad so the first fixes are already with us. This is why I am never too perturbed when things are amiss with Roon. They work pretty quickly when things need doing.

Good Morning ! an update just came in. Now the yesterday problems seem to be fixed. Great. Thank you Roon team for handling this so quick.
