Here’s track 1’s file tags as an example. Displayed in Jriver Media Center 22 that I use if I need to change file tags. Set to “Show tags with values”. All other tracks also have just the track titles without reference to any version or remix.
Noticed that my 2009 version of Revolver now has track names ending in (2022 Mix)
Only checked this after adding the 2022 mix version to my library, so I don’t know if it happens regardless.
This seems to be a general problem (at least not limited to this example) since I’ve seen the same on Marillion’s Clutching at Straws 1999 2CD remaster now showing track names referring to a 2018 remix…
With some releases, the play order and/or the bonus tracks can be completely different. In these cases it will not just be an annoying mismatch of the track title text. Roon will completely mismatch at a composition level.
But there are at least 4 things you can do:
Manually re-identify the album. With something like Revolver roon will often have the metadata for multiple editions of the album. In my roon I am offered 13 choices and one of them may be a better fit for your release:
In cases where there is no match from 1) because of differing play orders or bonus tracks, you can use the arrows on the right of the screen to move the tracks up and down to get a better fit. But this is an extremely painful process and is only recommended if you have incurable OCD.
If it is a local album, then in cases like this you can also just set roon to use your local correctly labelled tags. However, that may not help much if you have to do 2) anyway.
If it is a streamed album and you cannot identify the correct edition then as a last resort you can edit the tracks text in roon. This may not help very much if you have to do 2) either.
This was reported the day of the release, the metadata lookup obviously finds the latest data , not necessarily right, but applies one set of data to all Versions
The Fix is Album> Edit> Metadata Preferences then Track Title > Prefer File
It is common with classical releases that the lookup metadata is wrong , I use this fix along with Multi Part Grouping to adjust Composition
