With Roon 1.8 (build 831) on an iPad Pro model number MTHV2B/A and using local audio into a Bluetooth headset, switching out of the Roon app, and then returning to it causes the local audio zone to not appear. When this happens, if the music has been paused via the headset, it can’t be restarted. The only apparent remedy is to force quit the application and start it again, and this temporarily clears these issues until next time.

What you are describing seems to be expected behavior as every time you leave the app and return, the connection needs to be re-established. In the meantime, playback is paused.
