BluOS on NAD 399 not playing Roon Library Tracks (ref#A20Q5B)

What best describes your playback issue?

· Music doesn't start when I press "Play"

What type of Zone is affected by this problem?

· *Network Zones* are affected.

Is the affected network Zone connected with Ethernet or WiFi?

· Ethernet

Does the issue affect all file formats?

· The issue affects *multiple/all* file formats.

Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?

· *Only local library *music is affected.

Where is your local content stored?

· On the same machine where RoonServer is running, USB drive

If you move the content from your NAS to a local storage location, do you still experience issues with playback?

· The issue happens for both the NAS storage location and on the secondary storage location

Please try playing content of a lower sample rate (44.1kHz or 48kHz), does this work as expected?

· No, lower sample rates are still affected

Do you have an approximate timestamp of when the issue last occurred?

· Last week maybe with BluOS firmware update

What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?

· NAD 399

Describe the issue

BluOS on NAD 399 no longer plays Roon Library Tracks

Describe your network setup

MacMini M1 w/ Roon Server, USB SSD attached with music library, connected via wifi to Decco 6 mesh network, NAD 399 hard wired via ethernet

Hi @Peter_Apple ,

Thanks for your message. I’ve activated diagnostics mode for your account and I am seeing quite a lot of network errors. Can you please confirm if you try to perform a full reboot of your Roon Server + NAD zone + networking gear, does that trigger any change in behavior?

I did full reboot last night no change in behavior

And roon plays library files w/o issue on every other device

But not on the 399 which streams tidal via roon, tidal via BluOS and internet radio via roon

The library files will play elsewhere so the issue can’t be a disconnected library

LMK what I can get you to help troubleshoot?

I deleted roon cache in Mac Library but also did nothing

Hey @Peter_Apple,

Thanks for the update! It’s quite odd your 399 only has issues playing local files.

Do you have the device hardwired directly to your MacMini and or primary router? From a recent diagnostic report, we’re seeing the device fail to prepare when attempting playback, for example:

Warn: [Worker (2)] [C 399] [zoneplayer/raat] Failed to prepare NAD C399 in 15000ms. Giving up
Warn: [Worker (2)] [C 399] [zoneplayer/raat] failed to setup any endpoints..giving up
Info: [Worker (4)] [audio/env] [zoneplayer -> stream] All streams were disposed

I’d be curious to see if getting a more direct connection with the C399 makes any difference in playback.

Are you able to rollback to the previous firmware and test if the same issue occurs?

We’ll be on standby for your results! :+1:

I don’t have old firmware but I unplugged Ethernet cable from router to 399, it was almost impossible to pull out of router

I have it in a new port and can play too , I’m now getting music out of the 399

But now having trouble streaming tidal via roon to a Steinway Lyngdorf p200

Hey @Peter_Apple,

Glad to hear you were able to sort things out with NAD!

From a fresh diagnostic report, we see failures from the P200 due to server-side buffer overrun, which led to Roon stopping playback. We see a sync issue between Roon and the P200 - the drift is increasing between the two, which suggests unstable communication, possibly due to network latency or device processing delays.

The P200’s audio buffer became overloaded, likely because it was not processing audio data fast enough.

How is the P200 connected to your router? Can you get a direct ethernet connection going? Perhaps rebooting the device as well as your router may help.

Let me know! :+1:

Ok so that is A 24/96 file from tidal and I also get dropout if I try and stream a 24bit track from archive.org to a NaD cs1

The router is hardwired to the p200 and Cs1 but the Mac mini isn’t and that’s where roon lives

I get about 400 mbps download on that mini, upload is decent but probably not as fast so perhaps the Mini can’t push the files up fast enough?

Hey @Peter_Apple,

It may be worth testing out a hardwire connection from your Mac to your primary router to see if the same issue occurs. If it does, please share the name of the track and we’ll take another look.

Yeah sadly I have no Ethernet near this machine it’s up in the attic so has to be WiFi for now

Maybe w/ WiFi 7 it’ll improve

Hi @Peter_Apple,

Even if you’re able to temporarily move/set up a test environment with a hardwire connection, it would be massively helpful to rule out wifi if at all possible.

You could also try playing a lower-resolution file and see if it improves playback at all.

I had not thought of that consider me illuminated!

Will try in next couple weeks will have to unplug my mini and so have to do on a weekend

Let us know how the testing goes @Peter_Apple , thanks!
