Build 1392+: Various Artists Compilations Intermittently Splitting into Duplicate Albums (by track) in Roon, ARC [Roon Investigating]

Hmm, I’ve been scrolling through My Albums a lot during the past week, same as when the problem became apparent last time, but haven’t noticed it this time.

I want to add, or re-add, some color here…

First off, this happens with non-various artists albums as well for me.

Secondly, it has become quite clear that this happens only when I use Roon (as opposed to ARC, which doesn’t cause this) to play from large playlists (meaning several hundred or even mult-thousand songs.) It does not happen if I don’t play from these playlists, which is what happened for a portion of this summer. Now that I am back to using some of my playlists, it’s happening. FWIW, most all of my playlists are “imported” and not created in Roon.

Yeah I do after all. Not that I noticed with My Albums by Play Count, but clearly yet again with My Albums by Artist. It is possible that I had to scroll past Various Artists to trigger it. At least, I didn’t notice dupes the first time I came past. Then I arrived at Various Artists and suddenly noticed artists that should have appeared earlier already:

Then I scrolled back up and found duplicates, e.g. under S:

And at the top:

Hello @DDPS /@Suedkiez ,

Those additional details are much appreciated! I’ve forwarded them to the QA team to see if they can reproduce using the insights you’ve shared. If you can kindly please also upload your database when you have a moment, and let us know, please do, as it may help us reproduce. @DDPS - If you upload the database and there’s any specific playlists that reproduce this issue, let us know so that we can try to reproduce with them. Thank you!

Uploading now as 20250911-Suedkiez-thread269792-RoonServer.zip on the https://workdrive.zohoexternal.com/ page

Edit: Finished successfully

I have tried 4 times and the upload fails. I’ve used this system before without issue. Is there something different about it this time? My database zip is 9.67 GB and it fails after anywhere between 1.4GB and 5.6 GB.

Mine was 5.17 GB and it completed

This morning my upload was successful.

Hello @DDPS /@Suedkiez ,

Thank you for sending the databases over, they have been received. The databases are with the QA team for testing, and we will get back to you once we have more updates from their reproduction attempts. Thanks in advance for your patience!

OK this is weird. I have not rebooted Roon, and this is the first time I have ever seen it correct itself:

While I do have the occasional Case One issue, where Roon duplicates an album library object, I have found that a quick change of the ordering of languages in Settings>General>Languages for artist and album names makes a persistent return to expected behaviour. I assume that some may have to jury-rig a couple of low-priority languages to replicate this.

Today I have 5550 out of 5458 albums. If I select one, it selects its duplicate:

“1 selected”

Hello everyone,

As you can see from the image, after a certain number of albums have been added, Roon adds another number, a higher number than the actual number. A reboot usually fixes the problem, meaning the total number returns to a single number. The library is very large, and I’m wondering if it’s a processor or RAM issue. I’m wondering if this is happening to anyone else, thanks.

Known issue. Some albums get visually duplicated. (They exist only once, but are shown more than once. Don’t delete the visual duplicates as this will delete the single real object).

The current incarnation of the problem is being discussed in this old thread, starting with this post. (The thread is old and contains other, similar but different issues further up in the thread)

I’ve merged, into the support topic, so the history is together.

Still going, like the Energizer Bunny.

Again, this only happens after playing very long imported playlists, and it affects the totals in any view where the sort is by Artist. I’ve uploaded my database at least twice in order to get this issue solved, and it remains.

Still seems to happen for me sometimes, too, without very long playlists

For me too, It has been stable for a long time, but it has happened twice now in the space of a month, most recently yesterday. The first time it helped to choose “sort by album title” on albums with various artists, but yesterday it helped to do the opposite, i.e. to choose view as “various artists”. Then the number of tracks was completely wrong. And several albums were shown as 4 separate albums.

The only thing that solves the problem, at least for a while, for me, is restart of the Roon server (ROCK)

Edit: It does not effect only albums with various artists, but random albums.

Same here.

I’ve not noticed this issue in the past, but the last few days or so album count and track count in the My Album and My Tracks screens, as well as when using Focus on these screens, has gone absolutely bonkers!

As mentioned by some, it doesn’t only affect Various Artist albums/tracks.

A reboot fixes it temporarily, but the issues returns within a day.

Before reboot. The numbers can vary wildly from day to day.

After reboot

I see reports of this issue going back a couple years. Was this ever fixed at any point?

Was this ever fixed? As you can see, I and others are experiencing issues currently.
