Can’t connect to Roon Server after 2.71 firmware update on Silent Angel Rhein Z1C (ref#O5DD0A) [Roon Tracking]

So after re-installing the earlier version of the Roon software on my Rhein Silent Angel via the VitOS app on my phone, I have now also removed the Roon app from my iPhone and re-installed it there following the advise on this site. That indeed worked and I can now access Roon again from my iPhone. However, it appears that I have lost EVERYTHING! All albums that I saved over the years and all playlists that I created etc., everything is gone!

Moreover, I also drive Roon often from my Mac desktop computer. The same exercise there (deleting the app and re-installing it from the Roon website) did NOT work. The desktop Roon version still doe not connect with the Roon server. So how can I re-establish that connection too?

In summary, this entire Roon upgrading exercise has really been a complete disaster for me. Is there any prospect that I can get everything back in the way that I had set things up and what do I need to do to get back to where I was?

If you have made a database backup in Roon, which you always should because things can go sideways any time (and Roon nagged you about it), then simply restore the backup.

Else, I don’t know where SA keeps the Roon database and if it can be recovered. On Windows and Mac, for instance, installing and reinstalling Roon does NOT remove a RoonServer‘s database. Perhaps a question best addressed to SA.

For the Mac remote connection, probably best to open a new support request for this. Most likely this is a local problem with your setup.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your patience! While Silent Angel continues investigating on their end, our team has reverted a change in the latest 2.71 (1683) Production update that may help you reconnect to your Roon Server.

If you’re able to install the latest update, let us know whether it helps you reconnect. Thank you!

Beste paul,

Als ik op jouw link klik kom ik op een commerciële pagina van Silent Angel terecht.

Hi Everyone, I have installed 2.71 (1683) on my Z1 v2. Roon still shows as stopped in Vitos and I can’t connect to it. Rolled back to 2.0, that works.

Same isse on my Rhein Z1 V2 after update to Roon 2.71 (Build 1680). Roon apps on my iphone and mac can’t find the Rhien Z1…:face_with_steam_from_nose:

Hi, benjamin

Thank you for your continued attention to this issue.

I have just completed the update for version 2.71 (1683), and the results are consistent with version 2.71 (1680), still unable to connect to the Z1 Core. I agree with @vadim’s point that the root partition (2 GB) provided for Roon usage is too small, and this might be the root cause of the Roon Core failing to start in versions 2.71 (1683 and 1680).

Perhaps we can only wait for Silent Angel VitOS to provide an updated firmware version to fix this issue. Additionally, I have uploaded the Roon Server logs from this update to the link you provided earlier, hoping it will help in determining the cause of the problem.

Regards,
Rossi

Hi Suedkiez,

Thanks for your feedback!

Since yesterday I have been able to figure out a few things. I have now been able to re-connect my Mac desktop computer equipped with a newly installed Roon application with the Roon server. Thus, I can drive Roon now again from both my desktop and iPhone, which is great.

Then, as far as lost data, I have now retrieved all albums that I saved prior to the aborted Roon upgrade. However, since I did not make a back-up before this entire episode (weak excuse: I ran into problems with that a while ago, abandoned it at the time and forget to ever go back to that!) I have unfortunately lost all my playlists (except for a few ones that I also saved in Tidal).

Let’s hope that any fix to the Silent Angel issues will also be published on this forum as I am pretty sure that I am not on their mailing list. And let’s hope that Roon will do better the next time with their suggested upgrades.

Thanks again,

Jos

My guess would be that the database is still on the device somewhere, but I don’t know how to retrieve it. In particular if Silent Angel changes the disk partitioning in a future update (because, as was suggested above, their root partition may be pathologically small and causing this issue with the Roon update).

That’s why I‘d ask Silent Angel

Je moet de app bijwerken

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.
