Description of Issue
I am new to Roon, and still trialing but have set up Roon ROCK as above.
I want to create a backup to a local folder on my one laptop and have shared the folder, (and also to OneDrive).
However I am unable to add that folder as \ROCK\Data is pre-selected there, with Dropbox as another option, and I can’t see how to change this!?
When I try to add a network share, it assumes it is in \ROCK\Data and I want to add \LAPTOP-BFQLL77F\Backups … what am I doing wrong?
Must I unmap \ROCK\Data from Z: … I am scared to mess something up wrt to my Roon ROCK setup as I am not good with networking stuff!
(I hope I did not mess something up with a hard reboot of the Roon ROCK when trying to sort out a network issue).
Follow the guides, just do it for a backup location instead of a watched folder. From your issue description it sounds to me as you never actually clicked on “+ Add network share” (displayed on your second screenshot). Try that.
I have shared with ‘Everyone’ in Windows the local folder (on my laptop) I am trying to add for my backup location for the Roon (ROCK) database.
I was wondering if it’s because \ROCK\Data remains selected and highlighted.
Do I have to disconnect \ROCK\Data?
Or can I only add a backup location to \ROCK\Data - which doesn’t make sense if that machine fails?
I know either I am being very dumb or there is some sort of corruption?
I managed to run a backup perfectly well when I was running Roon on my laptop.
Note: Anonymous connections (not requiering username and password) are disabled in Windows for good reasons (part of the insecure SMB v1 protocol). “Everyone” in Windows is every known local and/or domain user account (and requires appropriate rights and login/connection credentials on the machine/share to work). AFAIK does Roon not support Microsoft cloud accounts, please create a local account for Roon if necessary.
PS: Remember that your laptop needs to be available when a (scheduled) backup should run. Roon will not wake up or turn on the remote machine. Maybe you’re better off using a USB drive connected to the ROCK machine as (local) backup destination. You can then use your laptop to access the backups on the USB drive over the network and make copies to other destinations (laptop, OneDrive, etc.) at your convenience.
