· Can't connect to backup on Synology NAS . Synology NAS shows a warning that connection using SMB1 is not permitted. Connection via Finder in MacOS using SMB is working perfectly fine.
Also, local locations are not shown in the dialogue box where it asks to choose the folder that contains the backup so I cannot even select the backup files I've copied form the NAS to my desktop.
Note that it has all been working fine previously. I only did a fresh install of the OS via UEFI (ROCK running on my NUC) to get the Tailscale options and get ARC working.
Tell us about your home network
· Router is a Unifi Dream Machine Pro with Unifi PoE and non-PoE network switches. NUC is connected via ethernet and the MacBook Pro which I'm using to access the backup in Roon via WiFi. Latter is able to access the NAS via SMB from the Finder.
We have gone ahead and reopened your thread as per your request, it does indeed seem to be different than the merged topic. Can you please confirm the SMB settings you have setup on your Synology NAS? Do you have SMBv2/v3 enabled in the Synology settings? One quick workaround you can try to do until we are able to pinpoint the issue is to have the folder mounted on the Macbook, and then share the mounted folder across the network using the guide below:
Just prior to you reopening, I had already created the backups copied to my desktop as a shared folder. These were then visible in Roon and, once I had selected the latest backup, it was up and running and able to access the folders on my NAS. In response to your question, SMB 2/3 is enabled on the NAS.
Thanks for the follow-up! A side question - have you tried using the IP address of the NAS rather than the host name?
Could you please check the Minimum SMB: On your Synology, go to Control Panel > File Services > SMB > Advanced Settings. Ensure the Maximum is SMB3, but try setting the Minimum to SMB2
In those same Advanced Settings, look for the “Others” or “Security” tab and ensure “Enable NTLMv1 authentication” is checked.
Thank you for the update and for confirming that the workaround is currently operational.
We have gathered the details of your case and passed the feedback to our development team. Your report regarding the SMB connection behavior and the local directory visibility after the UEFI migration is very valuable as we look to improve the RoonOS update and recovery process in future builds.
Since you are back up and running, I will go ahead and close this thread. Should you encounter any other issues in the future, don’t hesitate to start a new topic!
