· When I click on the app I get the page with option to connect to server on NAS or MacBook Pro, both with a green light that they are ready. When I click on connect to NAS it keeps searching but no connection

Hey @Jos_Stumpe,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report, I’m sorry to hear about your connection issues.

Let’s first review your synology firewall. Synology’s built-in firewall often allows the “heartbeat” signal through but blocks the actual Roon communication ports.

  • Go to Control Panel > Security > Firewall.
  • If the firewall is On, click Edit Rules.
  • You need to ensure the following ports are open for the local network:
    • UDP Port 9003 (Discovery)
    • TCP Ports 9100–9200 (Roon's RAAT streaming)
  • Test: Temporarily disable the Synology firewall entirely. If Roon connects immediately, you just need to refine your rules.
If that doesn’t help, let’s next review your Araknis Multicast Settings (IGMP Snooping).

Roon relies heavily on multicast to maintain a stable connection. Pro-grade gear like Araknis can sometimes be “too smart” for its own good by filtering this traffic.

  • Log into your Araknis AN-220 router or any managed Araknis switches in the chain.
  • Look for IGMP Snooping settings.
  • If it is Off, try turning it On. If it is On, try turning it Off. (Network environments vary, but toggling this often forces the router to re-map the multicast group for the NAS).
  • Ensure Multicast Enhancement (if available) is enabled.

If that doesn’t help, I’d be curious to know - are you unable to connect no matter the Roon remote device you’re using? Or, are you only having issues from your macOS remote? If so, it may be helpful to temporarily test out disabling your macOS firewall as well.

We’ll be monitoring for your reply, thank you! :folded_hands:

Thanks Benjamin for your detailed reply. I have forwarded it to my network specialist and waiting for his reply. Hopefully he can solve the issue with your suggestions. Will keep you posted

Friday May 15, 4:30pm tried to connect to Roon server and suddenly it worked again. Don’t ask me how. My network specialist said the Synology and Araknis devices were all having the settings you suggested.

Hey @Jos_Stumpe,

Thanks for the update. It’s good to hear the connection came back on its own, and that your network specialist confirmed the Synology and Araknis settings were already in line with what we suggested.

Is it still working at the present moment? If so, we can mark this one for closure and let you get back to your music.

Unfortunately I am not at home the coming months to check. All I can say is that Roon Arc doesn’t connect to the server (which it did three days ago). The reason:

So I think you can mark this one for closure for now. Thanks

Hello @Jos_Stumpe,

Thank you for the update. Have a safe and pleasant time away from home!

Regarding the ARC error you are seeing now, it is very likely that the internal IP address of your Synology NAS changed on your network (this frequently happens after a router reboot or an IP lease expiration). When the IP address shifts, the port forwarding rule in your Araknis router no longer points to the correct destination, which breaks the ARC connection to the outside world. Setting a reserved/static IP for your NAS in the router settings will prevent this from happening in the future.

Since you are away for the next few months and cannot adjust those local router settings right now, I will go ahead and close this thread as you requested.

When you return home, if you run into any trouble getting your local connection or ARC back up and running, please do not hesitate to open a new support thread. We will be right here to help you get everything sorted!
