Description of Issue

I have a strange issue with my Samsung S23 Ultra in discovering the Roon core.
At times when I leave home and get back the Samsung Mobile S23 Ultra gets stuck on searching for core.
I did try disabling IGMP Snooping and IGMP proxy in my router but this does not help solve the issue.
I installed the Fing app and tried scanning my network, when I do this the S23 Ultra can see all other devices in my network but not the Intel NUC PC.
I trying to ping the S23 Ultra from my Intel NUC PC but the ping times out.
When I ping the Intel NUC from my S23 Ultra the ping times out.
Whereas from my laptop I am able to ping both the Intel NUC and S23 Ultra using their IP addresses.
When I run sudo nmap -sP 192.168.0.124/22 the Intel NUC can see the Android Mobile and it shows that the host is up but for some reason the ping command never works.

Roon Arc always works fine in Samsung S23 Ultra even when it cannot see the Roon Core.

The problem is only with the Samsung device, I never have issues connecting to the core with my laptop or pc.

Samsung S23 Ultra has Random MAC disabled, and is not in power saving mode.
Samsung S23 Ultra and the Intel NUC both have static IP assigned in router.
Android OS Version: 14

Hi @Santhosh_Arulvanan

Welcome to the Roon Community

Just a fellow Roon user here

A few things to try

  1. see if there’s an update available in the Google Play Store

  2. clear the Roon Remote apps cache

  3. delete the app and install the apk from the Roon website

  4. try setting the battery use to unrestricted for Roon Remote

:innocent:

Menzies, thank you for your reply.
I have tried all what you have mentioned but have no luck yet.
The moment it fails to discovery the roon core I can never get it to work.
When I check the Wifi Routers Devices I see both the S23 Ultra and NUC are connected in the same network in the same subnet, but the Samsung Mobile just fails to connect to the Roon Core.

With your other devices, are these also on WiFi?

Are your 2.4ghz and 5ghz WiFi on the same SSID?

I notice you’re running Android 14. Is this in Beta?

I was going to ask the same question:
are you sure your S23Ultra is connected to your home wifi? Maybe you are still (only) connected via your mobile network (4G/5G).

As stated, i think Android 14 may be the issue.

Whilst this could be a possibility, I use a Samsung A54 with beta 14. It works surprisingly well for a beta.

YMMV and on the S23 Ultra it could be the cause

Yes all devices are on the same wifi and subnet.
I only have 5ghz band enabled as the area coverage is good enough.

Android 14 One UI 6 is a official release from Samsung and its not the beta version.
I can confirm i am not connected through mobile data as i can see the samsung mobile in router comfiguration page. Also tried disabling mobile data and still cannot access the core.

Hey @Santhosh_Arulvanan,

Thanks for writing in! I’d be curious to see if you encounter this same issue after the new update that is to be rolled out over the next few days. You’ll likely see the update by Tuesday at the latest, let me know if you experience the same issue then, and if so, please take note of the specific date and time and share that info here.

Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.

With that, can you share the amount of tags used across your local library?

Lastly, I’d test out updating your DNS to either Google or Cloudflare, and let me know if the issues persist.

Thanks!

Hello Benjamin,

Thanks for your reply.
The issue doesnt seem to occur any more and I am able to connect to the core without issues.
I turned off few settings like use private dns in my android mobile and it seems to be working.

Does roon need a proper DNS for roon core discovery?
Typically I have ISP assigned DNS in my router.
I can change that to google DNS as well.

Please let me know.

Thank you.
