When I try to set a scheduled backup for Roon (Settings_Backups), after I select the backup destination (and accept the other default options), hit Save, I get a message “Failed to get authorization to access account”. I don’t know what this means…what account…what authorization?
Any help would be appreciated.
I have installed Roon on a Mac Mini and want to backup to an external hard drive (where I also backup my whole system).
Hey @Grahame_Miller — Thanks for reaching out!
Have you tried power cycling your Core machine? After doing so are there any changes in behavior here?
Does this error occur even if you try to schedule a backup elsewhere?
Thanks!
Dylan
Hi Dylan,
I have power cycled my Core machine several times, however I did it again after receiving your message. That made no difference, ie I received the same error message when I attempted to create a scheduled backup to my external Backup hard drive.
However, I have two external hard drives…one for backups and the other for music files. I was successful in scheduling a backup to this second external drive. Not where I would prefer it to be, but certainly better than nothing.
Don’t understand why it worked on one but not the other.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Grahame
What format is the external drive that you want to use for backups? If it’s formatted as HFS+, then I think you won’t be able to write to it.
Interesting comment. The drive I wanted to use, but failed, is formatted in “Mac OS Extended, Case Sensitive, Journaled”. The drive to which I eventually scheduled the backups is formatted in “Mac OS Extended, Journaled”.
As I understand it, all Mac OS Extended formats are versions of HFS+. They are used to accommodate file sizes greater than 4Gb.
A brief search of the net has indicated that some third-party applications can have difficulty writing to drives formatted with the “Case Sensitive” version of Mac OS Extended.
This might be the explanation. Thank you.
And before you ask why I’ve formatted the drive with the Case Sensitive version, I can only say that it was some time ago, and it probably seemed like a good idea at the time.
