Hello @Shlomo_Drechsler,

Thanks for reaching out.

To make sure we’re on the same page, could you please clarify a few things for us?

  1. What exactly are you expecting Roon to do in this scenario?
    For example:
  • Are you expecting Roon to automatically recover playback when switching inputs?
  • Or are you seeing an error or unexpected behavior inside Roon itself when this happens?
  1. Which exact Naim NAC model are you using?
“NAC” refers to a Naim preamplifier, and input-switching behavior (USB ↔ coax) is primarily handled by the Naim device and its firmware, not by Roon.

From what you’ve described so far, this sounds like the Naim device is not re-initializing its digital input properly when switching sources, which is something we’ve seen on certain Naim models and firmware versions. In those cases, a restart of the NAC (or the downstream DAC/streamer) is required to reset the digital signal path.

Because this behavior originates inside the Naim hardware, the most direct path to a fix or clarification would usually be Naim support, who can confirm whether this is expected behavior for your specific model and firmware, or whether a firmware update or configuration change is available.

That said, we’re happy to help from the Roon side once we better understand:

  • the exact NAC model
  • how it’s connected to Roon (USB, S/PDIF, via another device, etc.)
  • and what outcome you’re expecting from Roon

Looking forward to your reply so we can advise appropriately.

Maybe he meant DAC not NAC

My guess is that he confuse between two emails. My DAC is not a NAIN I dont know where he got that .

Because you wrote NAC in the title and in the first post, and didn’t mention a DAC anywhere

And NAC is the model name of all Naim preamps

Hello @Shlomo_Drechsler

Thank you for the update.

You’ve mentioned “NAC” multiple times, both in the thread title and in your message. However, you later noted that your DAC is not a Naim device, and you’re unsure where that reference came from.

At this point, it’s unclear what specific hardware you’re referring to.

To help us understand and assist further, could you please clarify:

  • The exact make and model of the device you’re using
  • How it is connected to Roon (USB, coax, HDMI, network, etc.)
  • What behavior you’re seeing, and what you expect instead

Right now, the initial report and follow-up messages don’t contain enough concrete information for us to diagnose the issue.

Once we have these details, we’ll be happy to continue.

Hi @Shlomo_Drechsler,

Let’s zoom out to ensure there’s no further misunderstanding.

You mentioned that switching between two audio outputs is not possible without restarting the endpoint.

Is this correct? We’ll need to know the make/model of the endpoint to which you’re referring if that’s the case, because diagnostics show a large number of endpoints listed alongside your RoonServer in account data.

Your RoonServer is a MacOS machine, so I assume you’re attempting to configure a different system output in Roon? Can you please share a screenshot of the Audi Midi Setup utility from MacOS and an accompanying screenshot of your Settings → Audio page in Roon?

At a minimum we’ll need you to confirm the audio chain to which you’re referring in your post. We can’t provide effective support without a clear description of the problem.

Thank you and we’ll watch for your reply.

We’re going to close this thread at this time since we haven’t received a response in the last week. You can always submit a new tech support request here and we will reactivate the conversation as necessary. Thank you!
