Can't access ARC

I’m away from home for the next month. I had thought that I had gotten ARC working before I left, but maybe I was still connected to my home network. Now that I’m away, I get the following message in the box showing my CORE: “core isn’t configured for access outside your network.” I assume that I messed up in some way in setting this up. Is this something that I can fix remotely? If not, how do I fix this? My housekeeper will be there on Monday. She is very, very, very NOT computer savvy. But she has an iPhone and could download the app and, if I give her my UserID and password, could connect to my core and, if given proper instruction, could, theoretically make any necessary changes. But in order for that to happen, I would need extremely detailed instructions on how to do that. By extremely detailed, I mean specific enough for your 80 year old grandmother or a first grader, neither of whom have ever used a computer for anything other than email to execute. Is this possible?

As an alternative, my router has VPN capabilities and I have configured the MACOS built-in VPN services and successfully connected. But the VPN gives me a IP address with a 10.10.10.0 subnet and my core has a 192.168.0.0. subnet. I have no Idea how to do the NAT to be able to use the Roon client on my laptop. How can I do this?

If it’s relevant, I’m running ROCK on my server.

Moved to support.

I very much doubt either of those scenarios will work. Get it working next time you are on the local network.

Certainly number one is out.

I’m still working on the vpn solution but I’m probably going to have to explore having my housekeeper fix things. What setting needs to change and which app (Roon, rock or arc) has the settings I need to change?

My housekeeper will be at my house on Monday. I’d really like to get this fixed but I’m going to have to give her very explicit instructions as to how to change the settings to enable ARC access outside the network. As I stated above, she is very, very, very NOT computer savvy. But she has an iPhone and could download the Roon app and, if I give her my UserID and password, could connect to my core and, if given proper instruction, could, theoretically make any necessary changes. But in order for that to happen, I would need extremely detailed instructions on how to do that. By extremely detailed, I mean specific enough for your 80 year old grandmother or a first grader, neither of whom have ever used a computer for anything other than email to execute.

Please help.

ARC sets up Port Forwarding automatically via UPnP. If it is not working, the first thing to check would be to go to your Router and verify it’s UPNP settings. The next step would be to setup a manual port forwarding rule and see if that works. Anything else would probably need troubleshooting by reviewing the status code on the Settings/ARC page; of which there could be many reasons. Not something easily done remotely with a non-technical assistant, I would think.

One thing you could have your housekeeper try is the standard “Reboot the server” and see if that helps.

I always keep a PC running in my network that I can remote into to review and make changes to my home devices. Even if others are at home, they cannot handle the tech side, so I am often called upon while at work to remote in and fix things which are not working (not Roon but other computer and home automation systems).
