Hi yes thanks i have tried these steps. I am wondering whether mode i have mesh system in is incorrect (see comment above). Any thoughts on that? Want to rule this out as an issue before i go further. Cheers

The screenshot you posted earlier is for the DMZ; do not use this setting.
It would be helpful if you shared your port forwarding settings in the Huawei. Likewise, the IP address of your laptop.
Also, I recommend setting DHCP reservation for your laptop. Also, note that the laptop Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces have different IP addresses.

I’m also in New Zealand and must confess that I have wondered if anyone here has managed to get ARC working.
Okay, I have to eat my words.
After watching more than a few port forwarding tutorials and contacting my ISP for a static IP, voila, ARC is working, and I am in NZ
