All of a sudden, can’t seem to move music imported to Windows (via dBpoweramp) into Roon Nucleus One. Looks like it’s doing something, but just spinning circle and indication that first track of however many is being imported. Nothing shows up in Roon, however. Any ideas?
Drag-and-drop the folder from Windows Explorer into My Albums. Acts like it’s copying but never gets past the first track, and nothing seems to actually transfer.
Yeah yhat doesn’t work well in my experience. Copy the files directly using windows file manager. You should be able to get the Nucleus to show up as a network location.
Thanks. Nucleus doesn’t currently show up as a network location. Drag-and-drop has worked previously from File Explorer. Transferred my entire (extensive) Sooloos library that way with no problem. Anyhow, what do you mean by “copy the files directly”? Wish Roon had a built-in CD ripping function–very strange omission.
He means using File Explorer to copy the files and folders over the network into the Watched Folder locations that are available on your Nucleus One. These can be either the optional internal 2.5" drive into your Nucleus One or a Watched Folder location that you have set up on a USB drive attached to your Nucleus One.
If you have internal storage then follow Method 1 in Step 3 of this article:
Note that you may need to disable the increased SMB security that Microsoft has recently introduced into Windows. In the above article, the instructions for Windows Home users are correct, but those for Windows Pro/Enterprise users are wrong. They should be:
Disable the SMB client signing requirement:
a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor).
b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings> Local Policies > Security Options.
c. Double-click Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always).
d. Select Disabled > OK.
Disable the guest fallback protection:
a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). If you are using Home edition, skip to step e.
b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates> Network > Lanman Workstation.
c. Double-click Enable insecure guest logons
d. Select Enabled > OK.
If you have a USB drive attached, then under the \\NUCLEUSONE\Data\Storage path you will see the Drive showing up with a long folder name - open it to display your Watched Folder.
And, for reference, RoonOS (used in the Nucleus One) does have a CD ripping function, but it is limited: a CD must be known to Roon for it to be successfully added to your library and it doesn’t handle box sets at all well. Most of us do our ripping on a PC or Mac and copy the files across the network to our Nucleus or ROCK systems.
After a bit of confusion and installing a new version of Powershell, I have access to a folder called Roon Imports. Inside that is a folder corresponding to the name of my PC, within which are a number of files labeled “imported at [date and time]…”. Probably a stupid question, but do I copy newly ripped folders to the Roon Imports folder or to the subfolder?
Just to be clear does you Nucleus have a second internal storage drive for your music files? Or is there only an OS drive on the device and you are storing your music somewhere else?
Can you give a screenshot from Roon of Settings\storage?
So have you tried using Windows file explorer and entering the address from the internal storage KB mentioned above? i.e. " Nucleus One:\\NUCLEUSONE\Data\Storage\InternalStorage"
No powershell is needed just windows file explorer.
That is where you need to put your music files.
It should look similar to this (mine is on a Rock\Nuc but it should be similar to your nucleus one):
Thanks. I needed Powershell to open access via File Explorer to the Nucleus One drive (2-GB SSD). Now I have that, but what I see is a top-level folder, Roon Imports, with a subfolder corresponding to the name of my PC, within which are a number of folders labeled “imported at [date and time]…”. What I need to know is which folder I should copy newly ripped folders.
This folder and the folder named after your PC are created by Roon Server when you drag and drop ripped albums from your PC into Roon’s user interface window.
You don’t need to add further files and folders using File Explorer there. Just put them in the top-level InternalStorage folder as others have suggested.
If you want to declutter the top-level folder, then you can always create folders corresponding to artists and put their ripped albums in the relevant artist folder…
Thanks again. Copied a folder containing an album ripped with dBpoweramp into Nucleus’s internal storage folder. Did not subsequently appear in Roon albums listing, so I moved it to Roon Imports subfolder. Still no dice. So I moved it again to the MICHAEL-PC sub-subfolder that contains the previously transferred albums. Still not showing up. Don’t know if it matters, but dBpoweramp created an artist folder and within that an album folder containing the tracks. What am I missing?
