Description of Issue

Everything was working fine until I got the “Update Available” message and I ran it. I then got the message on my iPad it was unable to find the core. On my PC I got a message “Fatal Error this device isn’t compatible with Roon 2.0”. I’ve been running 2.0 for months. I deleted Roon and reinstalled it and rebooted everything but no joy–I’m locked out of Roon. What happened?

Right click on the Roon ICON on your desktop then click on Properties. If it’s in compatibility mode, remove the check mark to delete that.

I had the same problem. I didn’t uninstall, i downloaded Roon Server from the web site and ran it - that seemed to do the trick.

Neither worked. still locked out.

Some screenshots of the error you’re seeing, and of the things you’ve done to try and resolve it, might help move things forward a bit faster. For example, what do you see in the compatibility tab of the window that pops up when right click + properties.

I solved it last night after my IT guy convinced me it was a corrupt Roon update. I completely deinstalled Roon on my desktop and iPad, then reinstalled both. I ran restore from my backup to get everything back and rebooted both. Success finally. It will be a while before I do another Roon update.

So what probably has happened is that you had set a Windows Compatibility Mode on for roon.exe on your desktop at some point in the past. Then you removed the software by doing a complete uninstallation. This would also have removed the Compatibility Mode setting on the software as well.

Downloading and installing Roon again would then resolve the issue, since the fresh installation would not have any Compatibility Mode setting applied by default.

Don’t think so. I’ve never seen the Windows compatibility screen. I’ve been running Roon 2.0 since Feb and have updated at least once since then. Then this latest update locked everything up. You’re right about the complete uninstall removing everything, I just wonder how it got there if the first place.
