The optical drive hardware matters very little.

Not all can do C2 error pointers or do it well, hence why dbP recommends to test:

I long have had dBpoweramp configured to detect C2 error pointers with my compatible drives. But few members here are going to do that. And the capability is not something likely to be advertised or found on consumer facing spec sheets when shopping for optical drives.

True, but info can be found. Anyway, my point was that there are hardware differences that matter, even if not everyone cares or it’s not easy to find
