Cheapest/easiest Roon setup for garage

Currently I have use 1x Bluesound FLEX 2i in my garage. It works fine, but I also have 2x Polk Audio speakers I am not using, so they have me thinking …

What is the easiest/cheapest setup for me to drive those Polk Audio speakers (passive)?

An old Android phone, it’s what I use.
3.5mm out to aux input on an old Sony boom box in the garage.
Bulletproof

Edit…just read your speakers are passive so scratch the above

That’s actually not the worst idea, a Fosi amp is under $100 too…

Hey @igor_b, thanks for your question and welcome to Community! This is one we get a lot at Roon!. So much, in fact, that I’m working on a new How to Roon article to cover this very subject.

Some of the most popular, easy-to-use, feature-packed, budget-friendly, and great-sounding products Roon customers are using in your scenario are the WiiM Amp & WiiM Amp Pro. And… they’re both Roon Ready!

I’m resurrecting an old set of B&W LM1 bookshelf speakers and a small JBL sub for my article with a WiiM Amp Pro :loud_sound: :boom: It works a treat!

You can find more info on our WiiM partner page and on WiiM’s product pages.

Funny you should ask since I recently put together a system for my garage.

Source: WiiM Pro Plus, under $200 when on sale. The WiiM works and sound great and is fully Roon Ready. It also has its own DAC

Amp: Fosi Audio ZA3 Balanced Stereo Amplifier with 48 volt power supply, $150. The ZA3 has a line level subwoofer output but does not have a low pass filter.

Speakers: Polk Signature Elite ES10 bookshelf speakers.

Subwoofer: an old DAK powered subwoofer

Cables: inexpensive cables from Amazon. Please note that I used this cable - Monoprice XLR Male to RCA Male Cable - to connect the WiiM Pro Plus to the Fosi amp since several reviews mentioned that the balanced inputs on the Fosi sound better than the single ended (RCA) inputs.

Having real stereo sound is far better than any Bluetooth speaker and the ability to listen using Roon is wonderful. I use a Fire HD 10 Plus tablet as a Roon Remote, plus the WiiM Pro Plus can also stream directly from Tidal.

OK, slight update:

I found a Allo MiniBOSS so I will go the Raspberry + Fosi amp route in my garage.
