Describe the issue

When I try to use "Displays" to Chromecast a display to my Sony Bravia KJ-49X8500C, it shows a black screen on the TV for about 30-40 seconds, then stops. (Web display works fine.)

I have tried restarting the TV (using the TV menu "restart" function in settings) and restarting Roon and the computer Roon is running on. I have made sure that Roon and the TV are up to date.

Describe your network setup

Everything is connected via WiFi to a Buffalo WSR-3200AX4S wireless router, which connects back to a HGW-BL1500HM home gateway

Good day @Aaron_Jasny !

I hope you’re doing well today.

Can you please confirm that we understand you correctly, that you are trying to display the lyrics and track progress via Chromecast display as on the screenshot (

)

Also, is your chromecast built in to your TV or it is a separate device connected via HDMI ?

And as the last thing we’d like to ask you to reproduce the problem and share a with us a time stamp of when does the issue happen ? Did it ever work before in this configuration ?

Thanks!

Looking forward to your reply!

Regards.

Hi Alex,

Yes, that is correct. I am trying to display the track progress and lyrics on my TV screen, as in this screenshot of my phone:

Chromecast is built into the TV.

I reproduced the problem at about the same time I made the original post, around 11:50 AM JST (GMT+9). I reproduced it again as I typed this post, around 19:19 JST (GMT+9). I just started using Roon a few days ago (really enjoying it!) and this problem has existed since the first time I tried to use this display feature.

Thanks so much for looking into this!

Hello @Aaron_Jasny

Would you kindly let us know the exact model of your TV ?

The TV model is Sony Bravia KJ-49X8500C.

Hello @Aaron_Jasny

As far as I can see from the device specs. Is it correct?

Android 5 (Lollipop) devices can be used to cast to newer Chromecast devices but may have limited functionality and compatibility issues with some apps and services due to Google ending support for Google Play Services on Android 5 in 2024

Aha. So since the TV is older, Chromecast might simply not be supported anymore for some services? That’s unfortunate, but I guess it can’t be helped.

Thanks for helping me figure this out.

Hello @Aaron_Jasny

Thank you for the update.

Sorry for my miscommunication, I have missed a part of the sentence, it should look like this:

As far as I can see from the device specs, this specific model runs Android 5. Is it correct?

If this is correct, so regrettably, we are limited in the assistance here.
