Describe the issue

A couple updates ago, my Chromecast would somehow start displaying its default screen during playback; instead of Roon. Sometimes I can just simply click the Display Now icon in Roon to bring the album display back up. It isn't happen as frequently now, but don't know what is causing it. Is there something I can check or change? I don't use the Chromecast for anything but Roon.

Describe your network setup

ASUS Router, eight-port unmanaged switch, bluesound powernode edge player, M2 Mac mini as the Roon Server, all hardwired.

Hey @MotoWebmaster,

Based on your above description, this sounds like it could be an issue related to your chromecast device specifically. Can you check the sleep settings on the device?

Feel free to reproduce the issue and share the track name of when the screen appears. I’d also test out using different cables, as well as different inputs, and see if your issue persists.

Thank you! :+1:

Thanks for the feedback. I have disabled the timer for when the Chromecast turns the TV off. Hopefully that is what you were referring to. Will see how things go.

Hi @MotoWebmaster,
Was there any improvement from disabling the timer?

I think so. Haven’t been home as much, but the default chrome cast screen isn’t displaying randomly. Went back and set the auto-off timer to something like four hours, so an accidental issue won’t leave the chrome cast and tv on indefinitely.

Hey @MotoWebmaster,

Thanks for the follow-up! Based on your response It’s a bit unclear if you’re still experiencing the issue after adjusting the timer?

If you’re still having issues, see if the following can help:

  1. Download developer tools (please note, you must type developer tools in its entirety for the app to be found)
  2. Navigate to Settings>System> Developer Options
  3. Select “Enable developer options. This part is optional. It will enable the same options in your normal menu that the Developer Tools will allow you to change.
  4. Select “Stay awake” option of Screen will never sleep while charging
  5. Settings>Power and energy, set to never

We’ll be on standby for your reply!

The problem hasn’t returned, but just to be clear my Chromecast supports its own settings interface without the need to associate a separate chrome browser.

I’m using a Chromecast with Google TV

Hi @MotoWebmaster,

Thanks for clearing that up. If the problem has not returned is there another issue you needs our assistance with? If not please mark the thread as solved.
