Hello @Ross_Ashley,

Thanks for reaching out - happy to dig into this with you.

First, let’s untangle one thing: Roon Ready and Chromecast are two separate, unrelated protocols. The LSX II supports both, so it appears in Roon as two separate entries under Settings -> Audio - one in the Roon Ready section and one under Chromecast. A Chromecast TLS authentication error can only come from the Chromecast path - it plays no role in Roon Ready playback.

So we can pin down what’s actually failing, could you tell us where exactly you see this error (a screenshot would be ideal), and which entry for the LSX II is enabled in Settings -> Audio - the Roon Ready one, the Chromecast one, or both?

For the LSX II, we’d recommend using the Roon Ready zone - that’s the certified path and gives the best results. If the Roon Ready entry itself is failing or not showing up, please also check in the KEF Connect app that the speakers are running the latest firmware.

You mentioned you can share more details - a screenshot of Settings -> Audio plus the exact error text would be the most useful starting point.

Thanks!

What I ended up doing was using the ALSA from my desktop to the speakers. I can use one of the Direct devices from my Linux desktop where the Roon server is to the KEF speakers. That’s a workaround, really, but it works and I’m happy with that.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, especially on a Sunday.

Hi @Ross_Ashley,

Roon has some intermittent but long-standing device pairing issues with Chromecast that can pop up in certain network configurations and on certain devices.

The team has a constellation of fixes in the pipeline that we plan to release in the near future to stabiilize Chromecast.

Other protocols and digital outputs from Roon won’t be affected (Roon Ready or a driver like ALSA) by these Chromecast problems.

Please keep an eye on the Software Release Notes, as we’ll announce any Chromecast-adjacent fixes there. Thank you!

Thanks, Connor. I’ll be sure and keep an eye on those notes.

Hello @Ross_Ashley,

Glad the ALSA output is working well for you! If you ever want to revisit the Roon Ready zone for the LSX II, we’re happy to pick it up from here - just open a new thread referencing this one. Enjoy the music!
