Describe the issue

Chronic problems lately with mixed playlists, playing hi-res albums, and “Roon can’t connect to the core” messages.

I checked internet speed (see attachment) and that’s not the culprit. Thought maybe Qobuz was the issue, but was able to bypass roon and play 192/24 material (Carnegie Hall 1970, Neil Young) via my LG V30 phone using the same wireless internet connection without a glitch.

Would you please let me know when these issues have been corrected, and also credit my account at least one month for the hassle?

Thank you!

Describe your network setup

Spectrum DOCSIS 3.1 Modem / Voice Equipment Model ET2251

Spectrum Router SAC2V1K

Ethernet cable to my laptop

Laptop sends music signal to KEF LS 50W (Gen 1)

By Wi Fi ? or cable ?

Try running an ethernet cable to the Kefs as a test see if it improves matters

Hey @David_Robert,

Thanks for taking the time to write in - it’s good to see you on the community again!

As @Mike_O_Neill has suggested, a fantastic first step in troubleshooting would be to try to eliminate any potential network-related issues. The easiest way to do this would be to set up a temporary direct, ethernet connection from your server machine to your primary router.

Let us know how this goes and if you run into the same issues. Thank you! :raised_hands:

Thanks for the suggestion. I should be able to start with the hardwired speakers on my Dell monitor. If it’s not a problem there, then a temp ethernet cable to the KEF’s could tell me more. But if it’s still a problem through the Dell, that’s another story.

To your original question, Wi-Fi.

Thanks, @benjamin and @Mike_O_Neill. Roon passed the Dell test. So the issue is between my laptop and the KEF’s.

Come to think of it, can an ethernet cable directly connect my Lenovo Yoga i7 to the LS50W’s?

|Processor|12th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-1255U 1.70 GHz|
|Installed RAM|16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)|
|System type|64-bit operating system, x64-based processor|

@benjamin Also, why has this problem only recently surfaced – what’s changed?

@benjamin @Mike_O_Neill My apologies, gentlemen. Senior moment on this end, it’s just been a while since I first set these up. On closer inspection, I misspoke. The signal path:

Spectrum modem → Spectrum router (wired) → ethernet cable to TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch → ethernet cable to LS50.

Which, looking back, sounds more like me, to get the best possible audio.

Now what?

The switch to KEF’s Ethernet sounds like a good test for starters, it depends so much of Wi Fi individually , there are so many options for interference , neighbours , microwaves etc all clashing on the same 2.4 Ghz channel

An ethernet connection will eliminate that and will show if the speakers are capable

@Mike_O_Neill @benjamin Miscommunication, I think. See my post 4 hours prior to your latest. My KEF’s were connected via ethernet cable from the start of this thread. I had just forgotten. So the problem still exists.

Hi @David_Robert,

As a test can you try connecting the KEF endpoints directly to your router? This test will help us narrow down where the problem is.
