Community Remote for Linux, first native Linux GUI (v0.2.0)

Hello Jan, @Jan_Koudijs
Small problem with the latest version of Roon Remote :

Same thing for white list management.

Tested it with production server (build 1470), where the dropdown lists are populated.

As @Daniele_Piancastelli reported, looks like extension settings are still broken in Early Access.

As I’m not running EA myself, only the production server is supported.

There’s another EA update now, 1478, with a new additional fix for extensions

It’s correct again with version 1478 EA, thanks.

Anybody running Linux on their phone?

I found this app listing:

Curious how well it works on a Linux phone.

Sorry iPhone user here.

Same thing, that said I use my phone very little for that…

Six months of community use, over 1500 installs, let’s go Beta

Today it’s six months ago I started this thread to announce Community Remote, since then the Flatpak has been installed over 1500 times. With user documentation made available, I thought it would be a good moment to go Beta with the release of version 0.1.0.

With the Beta marker I want to inform new users that Community Remote is in the hands of quite some Roon community members, with few problem and bug reports, and therefor ready for a bigger audience.

A big ā€œThanks!ā€ to everyone who participates in this thread, thus allowing the project to move forward.

Changes in version 0.1.0

  • There is a bug fixed that could cause an empty Browse window at startup
  • Menu entries for online documentation access and an About dialog are added

Hi Jan @Jan_Koudijs ,
Thanks for your work.
I have a question:
How can I get out of the Ā« Now Playing Ā» screen ?

On Linux and Windows the Esc key brings you back, on Android the Back button is used for this. Still have the plan to add a close button, as current working isn’t intuitive.

Hello Jan
Yesterday installed your great Flatpak app without issue - well done
I’m running it on on a 4K monitor which means the text and graphics are very small
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can increase the size of text and graphics in the app
I’m looking forward to the beta version

Currently the layout only adapts to a small screen size. Technically it should be possible to also scale icon and text sizes based on screen size, or let the user set a preferred size. Although I currently have no plans to implement this, I will keep it in mind.

At this moment you probably have to check your OS for any screen scaling.

Hey @Jan_Koudijs, many Thanks for your Work! When I was under Windows I tested Community Remote, and it worked well. (Including the Android App.) Yesterday I used it for the first Time under Linux and it worked as well. But Today it just fails to Discover the Roon Server. The official Roon Remote Android App does. I should add, that I run my Roon Server inside a Debian Distrobox-Container, because my Host Distribution doesn’t use Systemd or upstart on which Roon Server seems to be depending on.

Hi @Florianthenewolduser, Have you tried bypassing the discovery by directly entering the IP and port of your Roon Server? There should be a link button in the lower right corner during server discovery.

I have to admit that I don’t know which Port is used by the Roon Server. Is that documented somewhere?

With the official remote you can go to Settings->Displays, then beneath ā€œWeb display URLā€ it shows the IP address and port number.

Thanks for the response Jan
I tried increasing the size via the OS but it does not impact on your app
Anyway, I’m glad that you will keep this issue in mind
All the best with developing the app
